“Nice hotel at a reasonable price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

Rooms are nice and clean, it was great to have a pool and hot tub. This hotel is very reasonably priced and I would recommend it! Great location as it is easy to get to San Francisco and there are a lot of good restaurants nearby. Close to the airport too!

I'm not a fan. It's basically lipstick on a pig. I think it use to be a Ramada and then added some new paint and decorations. The place tries to be more, and don't get me wrong it IS better than a 2 star Ramada nightmare but not that much more.

The place isn't cheap....many nights are well over $200 a night and i don't think it's worth it at all.

Breakfast is at the IHOP which is connected.....enough said.

The staff here are friendly and professional. Here for my birthday vacation the girl at the front desk wished me a great birthday weekend whenever she saw me.
Pool is heated and good sized. Lots of lounge chairs and was never crowded.
The queen bed was soft and comfy, but took up most of the room. Towel rack in the bathroom is in an awkward place by the toilet. As a single person on a weekend getaway this room was all I needed. Very clean to the naked eye. I would recommend this hotel to family or friends coming to the area.

The price was good, but you get what you pay for. Flat pillows, all outside access, tiny pool, uncomfortable seating for work at desk. Actually an old motel with new paint and a few nods to modern tastes.Good coffee (paper cups, but I'm resigned to those in this price range) & lighting for reading in bed. Small shower/toilet area, long & narrow rooms. Part of an IHOP (registration and restaurant share a building). OK if you are price sensitive; lots of other mainline hotels nearly.

Thank you for reaching out and telling us about your stay. I am glad you enjoyed the bedside lighting and coffee. I do however want to apologize that you did not find the same satisfaction with the parts of the room. The best way to improve on our product is to receive reviews like yours and again i would like to thank you for helping us improve ourselves. We hope you will come back to the Avatar in the near future and find your stay more enjoyable!

Positives - very friendly staff. When I called down to front desk to ask if they had toothpaste, not only did they have it, they brought it right up to my room! Location is good for Silicon Valley or Santa Clara convention center).
Cons - breakfast is the IHOP next door. Ok if you like IHOP I guess. There was a nasty buzzing in the lounge (which was otherwise quite nice) that meant it was not a place you'd want to sit.
Rooms - reasonably modern (except bathroom is nothing special). Not large but plenty big enough for a single traveler.

It is always great to hear when people enjoy our uniqueness in style, its our idea to create an atmosphere for those who are bored with the same bland hotels. Our staff always thinks of our guests first, even if it is just a basic request such as toothpaste. We hope to see you again.

Hotels in the valley are mostly expensive. Avatar is in the more reasonable ones. Motel style hotel. I generally like JdV hotels, and this one is the closest to Santa Clara (where I usually go for business). Rooms are ok, small fridge included, bathrooms are dated and cramped, bed is nice. Clean.

Clearly an older property that's been modernized, there are funky retro touches throughout - the problem is that playing the retro hand when the venue actually is old can backfire!

Staff were very pleasant, professional and helpful - absolutely top notch personnel.

The light switch hidden behind the window blinds by the door operated the floor lamp and the reading light at the RIGHT side of the bed; the light switch at the right side of the bed operated the clock/radio and the light on the LEFT of the bed! Who the heck wants to turn off the clock/radio and the light on the other side of the bed from a wall switch?

Another sign of age, there's no closet - your clothes hang on a rail in the bathroom.

Colors, furniture and general decor are generally attractive but there's no getting over how very, very expensive this is for what feels little better than a recently renovated Motel 6. I guess that's Santa Clara for you.

The free internet was very, very slow - I didn't bother paying for the "premium" service.

Room Tip: Try to avoid ground floor rooms - the textured concrete walkways are noisy when wheeled bags roll ov...
