“Hope to return here”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

Lavender Inn was chosen for our 2-day family group gathering, based on TA reviews and it did not disappoint. Wonderful amenities for such a small scale operation...full breakfast selections, wine &cheese, cookies, and complementary bubbly in the fridge. Front desk personnel were all super helpful with room assignment rearrangements, late check-ins, and complicated checkouts. Our people stayed in a variety of rooms, and all were pleased with their comfort, decor and condition. We agree this place is a fine value...location, amenities and attitude. We used our Suite 2 as a hospitality room because it has a really nice fully equipped kitchen plus direct access to a quasi private back patio with table and chairs. Cold wet weather prevented us from enjoying the pool and bikes, so we'd like to come back for that as well...and, it's just such a great convenience to be within walking distance of the beach and wharf. And for car-free travelers, it's just a short walk from the Amtrak station. Nearby restaurants...Brewhouse has great grub and ambiance, Rudy's Mexican restaurant is passable, and there's the famous Sambos if one wants more than one breakfast.

Room Tip: Suite 2 full kitchen plus patio is really nice..for provisions there's a neighborhood grocery st...

Stayed here for a couple of nights in November and was pleased we did.

The hotel/motel is a comfortable hour or so drive from LAX with cracking views of the west coast. We stayed in room, No 7 opposite the pool which was a good size (the room not the pool) the bed was comfy and the shower was large enough for me and dolly to get in.
Excellent staff, so was the breakfast which was in with the room rate the champagne in the fridge was a nice touch also. Only ate out twice at Brophy Brothers & Chucks – Brophys was the better food although Chucks was recommended by the hotel. Thought the beer was better at Chucks and talking of beer the Neighbourhood Bar & Grill is just around the corner which had a good selection of ales.

Location is good with the harbour just a ten minute walk but if you need to go in the other direction into town it is quite a trek although the choice of restaurants looked better. We didn’t do the wine & cheese or the milk & cookies but the people who did looked to be enjoying themselves.
BTW – if you’re nervous of natural disasters you’ll be safe here it’s outside the of tsunami danger zone.

Loved this hotel! Beautifully redecorated large rooms and within walking distance of everything but not too much noise. Staff were so helpful, almost felt like coming home! Lavender theme throughout, and breakfast, wine time and cookies etc were all so much appreciated. Very affordable.. only complaint, wish we had stayed longer. Will come back one day!

The reviews are all true, this place is great, right down to the bathrobes and wine/cheese in the early evening. Everyone at the reception desk that I spoke with we're very nice and helpful. You can walk to many good wine tasting rooms within 10 minutes (Corks n' Crown was our favorite) The breakfast was very nice and filling. Rented DVDs one night and ate cookies and drank champagne :). I would definitely stay here again

My daugther and I were going to check out the local college- UCSB. I chose the Lavender Inn and am very pleased with the choice. It was nice, clean, very close to many things so we walked to the ocean and pier. They put out a very nice selection for breakfast and also provide wine and cheese and crackers at happy hour time. the wine was very good. They also have a sister hotel across the street so we checked out DVDs to view and could choose from a very large liabrary of both hotels. It suited both my daughter and I very well, I just love Santa Barbara and all it has to offer. Check out the nautical museum on the pier- it is very interesting on the early boats/ships sailing to our California coast and had Jacque Cousteau memorbilia donated. The diving display is very good and has areas for small children to interact and play.

Room Tip: It has a motel layout so one room is not better than another. Small parking lot and hotel so all are...

We have always loved Santa Barbara and the many boutique hotels that line Cabrillo over looking the ocean. This time we tried something just off the beach by a block and were very happy we made the choice. The Inn has been remodeled, the rooms are perfect for a romantic get away, the management even supplies a bottle of champagne in the room for your arrival, Plus they serve wine and cheese in the main lobby in the evening. Our room was on the ground floor of this two story building ( almost all the small hotels in the are are only two story), and was very accessible.

We really liked how the location of this hotel made it easy to walk to the beach and then a very short drive to the downtown area. Tuesdays is Farmer's Market with some of the booths rivaling those in France and Italy for display and great produce.

We will return to the Lavender Inn in the future for another short get away.

We've made several trips to Santa Barbara (where nothing is what you'd call inexpensive), and this is one of the nicer affordable places to stay. It's not luxurious, and it is motel-like in layout, but it's clean, convenient, and a great value. For the person who was disappointed in the decor, I'd suggest looking at the online photos more carefully in the future; they do not misrepresent the place. Yes, it's a bit floral--as one would expect from the name, but it's not ugly granny decor.

Our only glitch was an air conditioner that developed a rattle toward morning (probably in need of service after heavy use).

Staff were friendly, continental breakfast items were good (for a free breakfast, after all), the evening cookies are addictive.

This is one of a family of family-run hotels, and another is across the street, so you can borrow beach bikes (highly recommended) for a leisurely roll along the oceanside path. There are several lighted tennis courts across the street that seemed to be available each evening, and my husband and a friend took advantage of those. The Chevron station at the end of the block is a virtual minimart, with everything a traveler might have forgotten and then some (including tennis balls!).
