My new husband and I went for the first two nights of our honeymoon last month, and we can't say enough good things about this place. We've already resolved to make an anniversary trip back, hopefully many times.
It is romantic, beautiful, classic, understated, unfussy. It's just glorious. The citrus trees, eucalyptus, jasmine, and lavender hit your nose the moment you pull up. The canyon is green and there are great views of the Pacific and the Channel Islands. The rooms are perfect, with comfortable four-poster beds, antique furniture, and charming blue-and-white china and Oriental rugs. I wanted it to be my home!
We went on a Monday and there weren't many other people staying there, although many came in to the restaurants for dinner. The staff was courteous and warm and we knew we could ask anything of them--in fact we did ask someone to come up and take a photo of us at our cottage and they happily obliged--but they considerately never bothered us. It felt like our private property--with an incredible staff and amenities.
Put it on your list of places to visit before you die.
