“Fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

#1, Dan is the best Inn Keeper we have encountered. He truly cares about his guests and the property, and it shows. Clean and up to date. Comfy bed, lovely tile and granite in the bathroom. Hot water..(really HOT water). fridge, quiet...and scones to die for, all at an economical price. And this was in the least expensive room on the property. The perfect accompaniment to the low key lovely town that is SB. We were looking for a late winter destination away from Colorado cold, and I think we have found it. Thank you Dan, for this potential home away home inspiration. Janine

Room Tip: We had room 17 in the corner...don't be fooled! It was quiet and just fine for a queen bed room...

we stayed there one night last week and it was great, room clean, large and cute with a nice bathroom. the manager was fantastic, gave us great tips on where to go for dinner and very knowledgable about the area. Would not hesitate to stay there again, in fact if he had had an opening we would have stayed a second night. Wonderful!!

I used TripAdvisor to book this place for the night that we stayed in Santa Barbara two weeks ago, and could not have been happier. The room was spacious, clean and the decor was really attractive, both in the bedroom and bathroom areas. The location could not have been better in terms of being right by the harbor, especially because it was somewhat rainy, so we did not have far to walk to get to the beach, the pier or the shops on State Street. The price certainly was very reasonable considering the location. There were no vacancies when we were there and we could see why. Management was very helpful in mentioning places to eat, and we ended up with a local Mexican take-out restaurant, right by the Inn, that could not have been any better! In the morning, there were lovely scones and coffee which were perfect. All in all, very pleased!!

Looked for an inexpensive place to stay near the water in Santa Barbara; this place was rated pretty highly, and at a good price. Made reservation the day before arrival - got the last room - and glad I did. Nice place, older but clean and well maintained (renovation work was going on during my stay). Helpful and well-informed staff. The park across the street was really nice too. I'll stay here again...

This is an old place that has been upgraded SoCal spanish tile building is only a couple of blocks from the beach and downtown action. Management was helpful and pleasant, recommending restaurants, walks etc. Internet rates are unbelievable during winter weekdays. Beautiful park across the street. Breakfast was standard fare.

A lucky last minute find, thank you tripadvisor! I have nothing to add to all of the previous reviews. It would be a destination for me in Santa Barbara. We had a private patio out the back door of our room. Adorable. It was such a lovely surprise when we pulled in, what I consider quaint. The room was very well appointed, the front desk gentleman was a delight. The price of 100.00 was such a bargain, in such an expensive town. I don't think we could have found an inn for more money that would have offered us any more. It does not have a pool, though, but we really don't care about that as we have one at home and we don't travel with children, so that was not an issue. The coffee in the morning was delicious! We both agree we will be back whenever we are in the area. Don't miss it!

Room Tip: We were in room 27, I don't know about any of the others.

My husband and I stayed for two nights in December on part of our California road trip. The location was excellent (walking distance to the beach and pier and close to downtown). The room was surprisingly spacious, comfortable, and clean, as was the bathroom. The price was unbeatable! In addition, the breakfast included fresh fruit, pastries, coffee, and juice, which really exceeded my expectations given the price of our stay. (By contrast I stayed in hotels in LA and San Diego for twice the price and no breakfast at all!!) So glad I found the Castillo Inn on TripAdvisor.
