I stayed Christmas week 2008 at a great low rate on Orbitz. $109.00 per nite. unheard-of low rate - off season. The high rates in summer reflect the location BUT there is traffic noise front and back of property. Still a good value at this rate. The restaurant is closed 24/7 and there is a pathetic buffet forB'fast . Really awful, very much of nothing. There is no fitness room. It is valet parking only - and the reason may be to keep traffic noise down for 'mountain view' rooms. A room on the east side 3rd floor may get a mountain view, just barely. For those on a budget, check the 'express checkout' carefully....they may try to take an extra charge for 'revenue'. at least they are honest about it. It is extra money from you to them just because that's what they do. If you have two rooms and one car, they may put a parking charge on both rooms. This is how most businesses get extra money, they hope you wont notice. Very nice staff otherwise. They even left aChristmas present for me in my room on Christmas eve, that was a nice surprise. They may want it back after reading this review. Overall it is nice, but not my first choice.

Pro:
two separate bedrooms, 1 with king, other with 2 queens
very spacious
pool
2 minute walk to east beach
breakfast included
balcony
free internet

Con:
Mandatory valet parking - seems ridiculous in a place like this.
"View "of parking lot from balcony + car noises

Sum-up: Good for families - kids have their own room

This hotel has an upgraded motel feel, but very well done. It recently had a face lift and the lobby, hallway and guest rooms are tastefully done.
The location is excellent and the breakfast, which is included in the rate, is a simple continental type breakfast. quite adequate.
Great views from the breakfast dining halls and great location central to all attractions, particularly State Street, the main shopping street in town..

Santa Barbara was great but this was our WORST hotel of 5 hotels during 3 weeks in southern California - and we paid $425 a night for a 'suite' which was the 2nd most expensive in the hotel! Terrible at the price. This SHOULD be a good hotel - it was smallish with nicely decorated corridors. It was a bus ride away from the town centre/shops/restaurants etc but good location across the road from the beach with nice view (as long as you don't get one of the rear facing rooms overlooking the car park). BUT the hotel just doesn't cut the mustard - even at 1/2 the price. I don't know where they get off calling our room a suite - it was simply a big room with one bed & they had to provide (& charge extra) for a roll-away bed for our 10 year old. The room had been renovated but they had cut all sorts of corners - old bath/rough woodwork/cheap carpet/weird redundant 70's large kitchen sync unit in the corner of the bedroom (self catering apt at one point?) The room had a glass writing table with one seat but no easy chair or sofa. Furniture on balcony was pretty good but down at the pool the sunbeds were old and area was cramped. We felt that the hotel seemed to be struggling...the restaurant had closed, the uesd paper pates for the poor breakfast buffet and staff, though ok, didn't feel 'professional' (students manning reception?). Why we ended up here is a long story but there are plenty of great hotels in this lovely town (we had one night in the brilliant Inn of the Spanish Garden). Definitely go to Santa Barbara but give this hotel a miss.

  • Liked — balcony & sea view
  • Disliked — very poor value, very basic accommodation and facilities.

I was really worried after reading some of the reviews of the Santa Barbara Inn. We stayed Saturday and Sunday, June 14 and 15, for our daughter's UCSB graduation. Let me tell you, we were shocked! The rooms were lovely! The beds were extremely comfortable, with white duvets and great pillows! The carpets were gorgeous throughout the hotel, especially down the hallways. The room was spotless, as was the bathroom, and the towels fluffy and luxurious. The continental breakfast included yoghurt, cereals, fresh fruit (cut), juice, and a variety of muffins, toast, english muffins, etc. The breakfast is set up in what was formerly the hotel's restaurant, and the view of the ocean is beautiful. Even the coffee was good. In fact, a coffee, hot chocolate, and tea bar is set up in the lobby 24 hours a day. Seriously, I can be a big snob about the hotels I stay in, and I could not figure out what the heck other reviewers were complaining about. We were having such a wonderful time that we asked to extend our stay---they moved us to a nicer room for the same price!

  • Liked — location across from the beach, great ambiance and comfort
  • Disliked — Santa Barbara does have many vagrants because of the moderate weather, and they inhabit nearby parks.
