The Santa Barbara on Cabrillo Blvd is a sweet little hotel, just about 2 miles walk from where State Street (the main drag through town) meets the ocean. The hotel was pleasant and well kept, but it was the service that was the high point of our stay here. The staff is professional and ready to help you in any way they can. Beware, the ocean view rooms are also pool view rooms and the pool was full of children playing constantly throughout our weekend stay. So if you want peace and quiet, give up the view for a room at the back of the hotel. The rooms at the back of the hotel have lovely private terraces that overlook a quiet and quaint street that runs behind the hotel. The view is of this little residential road, the mountains and the pretty cottage apartments which are located across the street. There may be a few electrical wires, which interrupt this unassuming view, but again...it's really not so bad as to ruin the feel. Although the street is quiet, be warned that there is a parking lot to the hotel next door that causes a bit of noise. Nothing too horrible, but not exactly a completely isolated experience either. I'm only mentioning this as fair warning to those who really enjoy their peace and quiet. The service at the hotel was stellar and my only real complaint was that my room (at the back of the hotel) had a thumping sound, which repeated all throughout the night. I'm still not sure if this came from the small refrigerator which was located in a cradenza upon which the Television was placed, or if it was coming from somewhere within the walls, but I do know that this repeated "thump" sound was loud enough to wake me up over and again throughout the night. Be warned if you are a light sleeper. I'm sure the heavy sleepers will not even notice. Outside of this thumping noise, I really have no serious complaints about the hotel and our stay was very pleasant overall. I might also mention, that if you book this hotel by searching it out on Google Maps, as I did - it is a bit further from State street than it appears on the map. But it's a very nice walk, which I really didn't mind (about 2 miles to State Street and about 2 miles of stuff to see as you walk up and down State Street). There is a wonderful park and walking trail between you and State Street, with a sort of a mini botanical garden / park to keep you interested along the way, if the gorgeous beach view isn't enough. On the weekends, various festivities go on at the park and along the walking path, but it's far enough away so as not to be heard from the Inn. ...And the harbor is just a hop and skip further down the road. If you are interested in using the Gym, you have to go to a nearby facility as their gym is offsite, which was a minor inconvenience.
Overall, I would say this was a great place for the price.
Rooms at the back/away from pool are significantly quieter
