“Great location, huge complex, a little tired”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

I took my mother on vacation and this was our choice in Santa Barbara. Our suite was very nice, lots of room. No view, but when we were in the room it didn't matter. The distances between rooms and services was difficult for her; I wish I had realized this earlier.
This hotel is set in an outstanding location with the beach right across the street with great walking and lots to see, including beach activities. I would definitely stay here again; although the place does need updating it is still in an outstanding location.

We celebrated our 15th year anniversary and enjoyed our stay. The location is great.....love being right across the street from the beach. My morning walk was so nice. They also have a wonderful staff. Everyone is so pleasant.....you can tell they love their job.

Room Tip: Beach front or pool view are the best rooms.

This is a very nice hotel in a great location. It is right across the street (a very busy main street) from the beach. The staff is very friendly & helpful. There is a great little gift shop boutique with a great selection of items. I never got served a meal that was actually hot when I got it. We had meals out on the patio outside the bar & in the meeting rooms, the food was good, but consistantly cold by the time it was served. Some of the hotel decor could use some updating. We had a suite that had a great view & was well appointed, but was not cleaned until late in the day & then not cleaned very well. And wi-fi in the rooms was expensive. Also I know that Santa Barbara is a very pet friendly place but I found it very off-putting to have a dog barking at me in the bar & many of our group complained about barking dogs in the building they were in.

Before you decide to stay here, i suggest you read several of the recent reviews.

i like this hotel, but sadly, there are some reservations, which may lead to some people being disappointed.

The location is excellent- adjacent to the beach, and there's a great view.

The lobby area is very impressive.

There is a beautiful pool area.

The location is a short stroll from Stearns Wharf and State Street, and there's a modestly priced community bus as well.

I recommend the suites overlooking the beach. They're spacious and generally well appointed, but the design is dated. Nonetheless they are clean and well maintained. For the business traveler, there's a good sized desk. Some people might feel that it's due for a refurbishment.

The resort offers comfortable and high quality accommodation.

There's a large pool area for guests. Also, it's a large resort, so you may have to walk some distance to where you're staying.

They serve a tasty breakfast in the restaurant.

I found the staff to be helpful.

In terms of location and general amenity, this is a good place to stay when you're in beautiful Santa Barbara- I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Oceanside is best

We stayed for two nights as couldn't find anywhere else in Santa Barbara with availability for a Saturday night stay. Arrived expecting to hate it and was pleasantly surprised.
Pros
Location
Pool
Room and bed size in a 2 bedded room
Friendly staff
Cons
Decor ( even the staff uniforms are from the 80s)
Musty smell in the hallways
Unorganised and extremely expensive breakfast
Paying for wifi in the room ( although free in the lobby)
All in all this place is in dire need of renovation. Done properly this place could be spectacular ( although they need to avoid the colour brown) . The test is would I stay again and the answer is sadly no. Not unless like this time we had too.

We are pleased that you enjoyed our location, the pool and spacious size of our guestrooms and thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. We are in the planning stages of a major renovation project which will begin in 2013. We hope you will return to experience first hand the exciting changes throughout the resort and give us the opportunity to welcome you back to Santa Barbara.

We were excited to try this resort. It is in a great location. The rooms were ok. Comfortable but need alittle TLC. The toilet in the bathroom refilled itself every 40 to 60 min. all night. We ate at two of the Restaurants on the property. Rodney's Steakhouse again ok. The menu is very limited and the food was average but expensive. The breakfast restaurant was under staffed and seemed unorganized, again over priced. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The room was paid in advance online through a travel website, however during the night a bill was slipped under my door with a parking charge for $19.00. We self parked! If they want to charge for self parking it should have been included in the room rate. The added charge after the room was paid seemed sneaky! I will probably not stay here again.

They first put us in a second floor room in a building with no elevator and with two kids under 3 and a double stroller that obviously wouldn't work for us. i had to get the manager involved to get us in a different room because the gal at the front desk told me they had nothing else available. Once they got us in to a room in a building with an elevator, the room was extremely dirty and was in dire need of a reno. The roof tiles were water stained and barely hanging on. We were very uncomfortable in the room and it gave you the feeling that everything that you touched was dirty... the floor would turn your socks and/or bare feet black! To make matters worse there is a train track right next to the property and the room that they gave us was right beside it and we were woken up several times throughout the nights by the train horn right outside our window.

That being said the property itself is absolutely amazing and the location is incredible.

Thank you for your feedback and for choosing our hotel. We're sorry you and your family encountered housekeeping problems. Dirty rooms are not typical at our hotel and we appreciate the fact you brought this to our attention. We haave brought this to the attention of our Housekeeping manager to ensure that all rooms are the cleanest possible and will keep your feedback in mind when we update our hotel. We hope you will give us a second chance, if your travel plans include a return trip to our area.
