“Quiet Getaway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

I recently stayed @ this quaint "boutique-style" hotel to celebrate an Anniversary for the 1st time. I have to admit that we (wife) had a very pleasurable & leisurely experience. I booked the spacious penthouse on the second floor, which housed a master bedroom complete w/ a deluxe king, full bathroom connecting to the bedroom, full kitchen including appliances, utensils, & pans, living room with an automatic fireplace & pull-out sofa bed, & large balcony w/ a view! The icing on the cake was definitely the complimentary champagne waiting for us on the counter-nice surprise! Brisas doesn't cut you short when it comes to value (i.e. free beach cruiser rentals, wine & cheese hr, & cookies & milk hour, dvd's, etc.) The property is well-maintained, quiet, & is steps away from the beautiful harbor & warf. Surprisingly, there was no charge for parking & the room was very close to the car. Service was impeccable, from the telephone inquiry through the checkout - Lily @ the front desk was pleasant, professional, & very helpful throughout the process. Overall we had a wonderful stay & will be back definitely.

Room Tip: If you want a balcony, you have to book the suites or penthouses & includes the mountain side vi...

My husband and I have stayed in Santa Barbara many times but never near the beach so we decided to try this place. It's not a luxury property but it really does a great job with what it has. Firstly, the service was wonderful, especially Willaim who was a real concierge giving us advice on everything that was spot on. The rooms are a good size, nice beds, linens and bath products, especially the robes. Food was just ok...average pastries on paper plates but the wine at happy hour was really quite good. We did not end up liking the location...over a mile walk to opur favorite part of State St. and it seemed a bit of an iffy neighborhood for walkiing at nite. There is a pool and hot tub and they are very friendly to children so it's great for families. All in all, pretty good for the price.

I stayed here one night only. The front desk staff was efficient, helpful, and courteous, and the breakfast in the lobby was delicious. Many nice touches abound, including, when I visited, a real Christmas tree, gorgeously decorated in the comfortably appointed lobby. The bed was very comfortable. I especially liked the separate dressing area with a large vanity and mirror. My room had plantation shutters and a ceiling fan (I suspect most rooms do), both of which made the room quite homey. Doors open into the parking area, which means that it can get a bit noisy during the day with people coming and going. This is an older property that's been beautifully modernized.

We recently spent a month at Brisas Del Mar, and truly hated to leave. The staff, to a person, was helpful, always accommodating, and friendly. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well maintained. We had what could be considered a suite, with a small kitchen, living room, and bedroom. We were not expecting the Ritz, but what we had and enjoyed was a lovely continental breakfast each day, wine and cheese in the afternoon, and milk and home-made cookies in the evening. We've stayed at several hotels in Santa Barbara and this surpasses the supposedly more upscale ones. Maritzia and William could not have been more solicitous and the morning staff was just as lovely. We plan to return soon.

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the lobby would be our preference.

Fabulous boutique-like hotel.

Fruits, coffee and chocolate available at all times.

When I arrived the fireplace was burning and I hopped on a free beach cruiser and headed about .5 mile down to the pier.

The heated pool and hot tub were lovely.

There is a bottle of champagne waiting in my room and there was a nice cheese and wine session from 430 to 630 followed by cookies and mile from 630 to 830 although they left them out basically all night because when I went to get a couple DVD's (they have over 1K to choose from) they were still out at 930pm.

The bed was amazingly comfortable, the service was that of a 5-star resort... which it is 3 diamond along with great reviews here and other sites!

Reasonable prices. The front desk reception gal, Lilly was so pleasant, courteous and professional... She also helped me find a great restaurant at the end of the pier that I enjoyed for dinner.

I'll be returning, thank you.

Santa Barbara tends to be pricy for the room quality, but we found Brisas Del Mar to be a decent choice for the money. Rooms are nondescript but reasonably comfortable; ours had the advantage of being on a corner so had windows/light on two sides. Service was very accommodating and friendly. We appreciated the many extras, from the sparkling wine in the room to the DVDs available on loan to the nightly cookies (wine and cheese could use an upgrade, but then what do you expect for free). Would have appreciated the loaner bicycles if the weather hadn't been so rainy! Expanded continental breakfast was not exciting but nicely set up, with a pretty good range of choice from yogurt to fruit to boiled eggs to pastries. Pleasant tables outside or you can stay indoors by the fireplace.

Location was better than I expected from some of the other reviews. Very easy access to Hwy. 101 and a short walk to the beach (the "Inn at the Beach" label is a bit of a stretch as it is several blocks away). The immediate neighborhood is not super-deluxe but is well kept. Mostly residential (small houses and apartment buildings), with a number of other small to mid-sized motels and inns.

I have no idea why the reviews here are SO high. I fell in love with the website photos and was SHOCKED when we showed up. Yes, the lobby building and the landscaping in the front area are gorgeous. Yes, the staff are friendly and professional That's about it. We stayed in a king suite here in early November and I was outraged to discover that my $280/night fee was spent at a glorified motel with significant noise problems. Moreover, the only view we had was of the tacky courtyard showing all the cars underneath the units. We couldn't see any nice view out the bedroom window (it's not actually AT the beach so no beach views) so all we got was a tall fence.

Instead of an intimate elegant retreat (as the website photos show!), it is basically a minimally remodeled old apartment building (with a gorgeous front lobby building but nothing much remodeled out back) whose units are sitting directly atop the carport spaces. All the doors open directly into the courtyard like motels, and the old-school glass shutter windows seem to magnify every single noise (folks walking by, folks slamming car doors, doors slammed shut, etc.). The king bed and the sofa bed my 2 young daughters slept on were both lumpy and uncomfortable. The kitchen looked original to the 1950s with some cheap upgrades (Magic Chef oven, cheap apartment rental-grade refrigerator).

I'd be upset even if I paid $150/night for this level of accommodation and the terrible noise issue. I was SUPER upset that I paid $280 after seeing the website and thinking it was an upscale retreat.
