“Always a pleasant staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2014

Have stayed here many times over the past several years. Always CLEAN! Staff are friendly and helpful. And staff remember me and address me by name- no small feat for as many people that most likely come through this hotel. Great location to this part of town.

Stayed here for a month whilst attending a medical clinic in town. We had a great time in Santa Barbara and we were very happy with the Encina. The room was a king suite with a small kitchenette which was very adequate for the meals we needed to cook. Full size refrigerator and gas stove and fully equipped cupboards. The bed was amazingly comfortable and we slept so well. Housekeeping did a stellar job, as the room was serviced daily with fresh towels, bottled water and whatever else was required. There was a 42" flat screen TV in the lounge and another TV in the bedroom. The shower was hot and very nice with an adjustable shower head. We were in 257 overlooking the pool and Las Aves restaurant. A number 3 bus from just around the corner takes you downtown or to upper State street, or a cab will take you to lower State for around ten dollars. The location is suburban and is in a beautiful area with lovely homes. A supermarket and fruit market is about ten minutes walk away up De La Vina street. I cannot speak highly enough about the staff and management..nothing was too much trouble, and any minor issues in the room were fixed immediately. The rooms are not super-modern, but are quaint and comfortable, and the rate was very affordable for an extended stay such as ours. It is not a five star hotel but I give it five stars for the sheer fact that it was home away from home and so comfortable. Carol, Helen, Akio, Tom, Danny thank you for making our stay so pleasurable. I can highly recommend this hotel and will stay here again if ever in Santa Barbara.

I was trying to save some money by staying at this hotel, and since we just stayed for 1 night, it was fine. The room was clean enough, and the front desk people were friendly. But when you walk into the room, you're instantly transported to your grandma's house. From the floral wallpaper, to the 2 old brown recliners, to the small bowl of hard candies (complete with butterscotches!). The hubs and I found it funny and laughed it off, so it's not like it was tragic. Just. Not super updated...

I had to knock it some points because housekeeping knocked on our door at 9am when we were still asleep (maybe get some "Do Not Disturb" signs?) and woke us up. They also have some birds across the way that are kinda fun, except when they make noise when you're trying to sleep.

I'd recommend requesting a room that is not next to the stairs, because it can get loud.

Overall I'd say this is a "Pretty Nice Western", but maybe not the "Best".

Room Tip: I'd recommend requesting a room that is not next to the stairs, because it can get loud. Also a...

I do appreciate your comments on our hotel; and thank you for being our guest. I am sorry you weren’t completely happy with our property; but do hope you will give us another chance and visit again. I am constantly updating our guest rooms; perhaps next time you can request a room that has just been done with new carpet, paint, and wallpaper. Regarding our aviary; usually the little Zebra Finches go to sleep by 9pm; and just do a little murmur while they sleep. That is audible only when standing right at the cage……….I’m sorry if they were rambunctious while you were here. We do have ,do not disturb signs in our rooms, sorry that yours was missed. And the stairs………..sorry about that location for you. We do have many rooms that are away from stair cases.

Please do come again; we want to redeem ourselves. Thank you

This hotel is very clean and comfortable. It is located in a quiet suburban location but minutes from all of Santa Barbara's scenic attractions. This hotel provides in-room bottled water, coffee, mints, and fresh fruit daily. The staff is personable and pleasant. The price is reasonable for this area and room amenities and parking are complimentary. We have thoroughly enjoyed 2 stays here and this will be our hotel of choice on future visits to Santa Barbara.

We just returned from staying 3 nights here after checking out the City college. We were very impressed with the clean room, nice, but not fancy furnishings. Nice restaurant on site, and very well cared for grounds in quiet part of town. Has nice pool and very private hot hub. We would stay here again. Desk help polite and helpful. Glad we got away from the beach for some quiet sleeping as many motels near beach have road close by, not here.

We stayed here because it is close to my daughter's house, but would rather stay somewhere else. Everything is fine but not great, rooms need some fixing up. Staff is nice, beds are ok, everything is just ok but it is close to the hospital if you need that.
