We stayed one night on the way home from a vacation in Monterey. We had booked using Expedia and the rate was $178 includes tax upon check out found the rate should have been $113 even at this rate is was too much. This is a motel like your grandma and grandpa stayed at in the 60's. I'd say if you aren't particular and like Motel 6 then this is for you. the carpet is old and dirty the room is a bit run down. the location is less than ideal unless you want to be across the street from a mall shopping lot. It's not very close to downtown nor the beach either. One night was enough, but if you get it for less than $50 a night then it's probably okay.

My fiancee and I stayed here the last week of June 2004. As has been previously stated, this is more a motel than hotel. However, it is clean, friendly, quite, and convenient. The hotel is located on the upper portion of State Street (the main street in downtown, which is about 2 or 3 miles south ). It is about a 5-10 minute drive from the SB airport. The pool was nice and the rooms were spacious. The decor of the hotel is late 70's/early 80's. The hotel bar looks like something from a 70's cop show and the local regulars give it a lot of character (in a good way) and the staff is very friendly (I expected Quincy or Columbo to show up any minute :) ). Parking is free. It is true the hotel isn't on the beach, but most beaches are easy to drive to and parking is cheap or free. Downtown SB parking is very inexpensive and you can easily get to where you want to go. I suspect the cab ride from the downtown bars on state street to the hotel wouldn't be too exensive. I would stay here again.

This is a well maintained motel close to downtown SB and exit ramps from US101. Rooms are nice, the grounds and pools are family oriented.

All-in-all, the room rate was high, but the experience good. Less than 10 mins to SB by car; there is a bus service. There is a restaurant which serves a good breakfast. Did not hear too much "background" noise. Across the street from a mall that has some nice little deli stores.

The front desk was slow on the day we regisitered -also could do with modernizing! Staff were friendly.

Would recommend for a short stay.

We only were able to stay here one night because we were traveling by car from San Fran down to the Hearst Castle. Wish we had more time. The rooms were clean and very comfortable for the money. We had fruit in the room and a fridge, also had a balcony overlooking the courtyard. Staff was very friendly. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the window overlooking the outside hall from the bathroom. It just seemed strange.

We stayed at the Pepper Tree overnight to see a concert at the SB Bowl and found the staff very friendly. The adjoining restaurant was excellent, good food and reasonable prices. They even cleaned our car windshield as a courtesy. There was fruit in our room and a shopping complex is across the street from this motel. We would defintely stay there again.
