“Nice staff, property needs updating”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2013

I don't normally expect much from a Best Western. But at over $200 a night, I expected a lot more than I got. The rooms are very old. Sliding door in shower got stuck and I was trapped in side for a bit until I was able to shake it loose. Sliding closet doors got stuck also. Everything in the room looks pretty old (except for the TV). For the price, I would recommend trying to find a B&B or paying a little more and staying somewhere a little nicer. The staff was great though. Very nice people! I will also say that there us bottled water and fresh fruit in the room, which was a nice touch.

We stayed in a ground floor room with direct access to the pool and jacuzzi. The room was comfortable although the bathroom layout was a little small with an odd layout. There are lots of restaurants nearby and the room had a microwave so we were able to heat up our own food.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and were able to give good advice on local attractions.

The layout of the hotel was a bit motel like as we were able to park outside our room which made for great access.

I rated the hotel as average simply because the facility was not anything exceptional. The room was clean and the bed was somewhat comfortable, but the area was just a bit too noisy for me. The staff, on the otherhand, was exceptional. I appreciated the helpfulness of the frontdesk personnel and the bartender in the Treetop bar was really nice.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the main street are quieter.

I've stayed in some really nice Best Westerns and some just ok ones. This rates in the just ok range. It was clean and the room was nicely decorated. The bed was comfortable but the couches not so much. There were two small couches that converted into single beds - handy for families. The blackout curtains had small holes in them. The flat screen TV was nice (see picture). I asked for an upstairs room and was put downstairs. There was no mention of any construction when we checked in but the hotel was doing major construction on the room NEXT DOOR - so much for any peace and quiet during the day. There was a lovely fire pit right outside at our end of the courtyard, which was great to gather around and chat with other guests. The downside of having this just outside the sliding glass door was people constantly gathered practically in our sitting area. This hotel does not offer any breakfast, although there are plenty of restaurants in the area (including a shopping mall across the street). The shower had to sliding doors - one did not move at all and the other did not close all the way. When I checked out the employee did not even ask how everything was. I guess they don't really want to know. A friend we were traveling with was bit by a dog in the pool area. We all love dogs, but the hotel definitely needs to have stricter guidelines about how they are allowed on property. The two dogs were with a couple of kids with the mom in the hot tub. They had leashes but were not restrained. Thankfully the injury was not severe. My husband was attending a seminar and said the hotel staff was responsive and that the event was nicely catered.

On April 4-6, 2013, our small local chapter of a professional organization was responsible for planning and hosting a regional business meeting between 13 chapters from CA, AZ, NV and HI, which was attended by almost 50 professionals. We also desired to schedule a training seminar and receptions for visitors while here in the Santa Barbara area, which was attended by almost 70 professionals. Co-chairs of our chapter's planning committee were very fortunate early to enlist help by the professional sales and banquet staff at Best Western Pepper Tree Inn to assist with all matters, and our needs were met in timely, effective and reasonably economical ways. Our local chapter members were very satisfied with the outcome of all events, and our visitors likewise expressed appreciation for the quality, costs and convenience provided by BW Pepper Tree Inn during their stays. We will someday return for other events when scheduled. ~Don Irelan, SR/WA~

We stayed at this hotel for a business meeting and it is a very attractive older hotel with pretty landscaping, and nice patios. it is just across the street from shopping and not far from down town. The room was a clean, nice size with great bedding and comfortable beds. I'd stay here again.

Hotel is conviently located nearby shops and restaurants. The hotel itself has a nice layout, with a swimming pool and hot tub. The room was a decent size with complimentary biscuits and hot drinks. Unfortunately our room was on the ground floor, next to a room where building work was taking place. The builders had an electric saw right outside our window, and where drilling and banging next door from around 7:30am. I would have expected the hotel to let us know this was the case so that we knew what to expect, or changed our room to a quieter part of the hotel. There was a lot of parking, and complimentary tea and coffee at reception which was good.
