“Tired hotel undergoing remodel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

We stayed at the Goleta for two nights while attending The World of Pinot Noir event at Bacara, which is too rich for our blood (hmmm $600/night vs. $160 - you decide!). The Goleta was undergoing renovation, anticipating completion in time for the Summer season.

Rooms are small, adequate as long as you're not planning to hang out at the hotel. It's a motor inn; sleep, swim, take a shower and get out and about! Now a Kimpton property, it will stay pet-friendly, even after renovation, as are all of their hotels. I am hopeful that the renovation will include brightening of the rooms, as they are currently poorly lit and have dated furnishings.

We look forward to returning when traveling with our dogs. If going to events in downtown Santa Barbara, I'd stay downtown.

This place was a disaster. Did not look like the pictures shown on website. The actual room itself was okay. It appears to have been renovated but they forgot to replace the nasty carpet. Loud construction until late at night and beginning early the next morning. large mounds of dirt in the court yard. Big construction dumpsters everywhere and the public areas were a dirty mess. They only gave us one towel and had to ask for more to be brought to the room. Water was turned off during my daughter's shower. The front desk told us it would be turned back on momentarily. It was turned off for hours. Not worth the $100+ per night I paid for this room.

Stayed there at the end of March when the renovation was in full force. Got a good price because of it. That's the good part. Don't know what it is with this hotel that they only give you enough towels for 1 person. They will give you more if you ask but it's such a bother. We stayed twice, three nights at the beginning and then the night before we left. The first room was a "disabled access" king room and the bathroom had no room to put anything. We had to ask for a table which was provided. The second stay we asked for a regular king room and it was a little better but both rooms were pretty bare bones. They tried to spring the "Oh, they just closed the pool on us" line, which was obviously not true. It had been closed quite a while. Oh, and the beds were comfortable, and that's about the best that can be said. And once the renovation is over the price benefit will go away.

Room Tip: Try to get a room that's already been renovated, if no price difference

We stayed at the Hotel Goleta for two nights in late March 2014. Some of the hotel discount sites still list this as a Holiday Inn, so I didn't know what to expect. The entire place is undergoing renovation, and about three-fourths of the rooms were being re-done when we were there; the pool area was roped off due to decking upgrades being made. Since it was March, that didn't bother us zince we weren't planning on swimming anyway. Our room had already been renovated and was very nice. The shower was fully tile lined with large sliding glass doors--no tub, if that matters to you--and nice, thick bath towels. There's no door between the toilet and the sink area, but there is a Japanese-style sliding door that closes off the bathroom from the rest of the room. A vent fan to remove "odors" and shower steam would have been nice, though!!! As one other reviewer noted, there's no coffee maker, refrigarator, or safe. There is coffee available in the lobby, and I don't leave valuables in my room anyway, so that wasn't an issue with me. We put our salami and cheese in the refilled ice bucket when we left for the day, and it was fine when we returned that evening and had it with crackers and a glass or three of wine. The lobby was very nice, the desk staff was very pleasant and friendly (including the house dog!!!), and we used the lobby computer to print out our boarding passes for our flight home from Burbank Airport. I've found that if you go in with an attitude, you'll get that same attitude back at you. We opted for the Bed and Breakfast deal when we made our reservation, and were very happy with the buffet. One problem we had was we couldn't get a King bed room on the ground floor. My wife had some difficulties climbing the stairs so a ground floor room would have been nice. Our room 217 was completely isolated from any construction noises. The breakfast room staff were very pleasant and took good care of us--not too hard because we were almost the only people there both days. The food selection was standard buffet fare but was very good and fresh--fresh fruit, oatmeal and cold cereals, scrambled eggs, potatoes, pancakes, bacon and sausage, bread and muffins, and a make-your-own Belgian waffle maker. Juices and coffee were included in the price. We thought it was well worth the extra cost of around $12 for both of us. I thought the room rate of around $92 was very good compared to rates in the area, and we were very happy with our stay. I don't understand Paula H's comment about being in "not a great area". And if she really ended up at the Canary Hotel like she said, those rooms are almost $600 per night, a completely different class than this hotel is in. The hotel is adjacent to several shopping areas with a grocery store, CVS Pharmacy, and several restaurants, some within walking distance. The hotel restaurant was also closed for remodeling, so that was a good thing. I would definitely return here if we visit Santa Barbara again. By then, all renovations should be completed, and maybe we'll visit in the summer during swimming weather.

Room Tip: Be sure renovations are completed if you want to swim or are a late riser (noise in some rooms). The...

Stayed here this weekend. There is nothing on the Hotel's website to lead you to believe that two thirds of the property is a construction site. The pool is closed and most of the rooms are uninhabitable. Construction begins at 7:45 am and ends at 10 pm, at least on the days that we were there which were on the weekend. The property is dusty, loud and filled with construction workers walking by your room or using loud equipment. Our room looked nothing like the rooms on their website but instead like a Holiday Inn room from the '70s. It was tired, small and provided only 1 towel for a two-bedded room.

Ultimately this will be a nice boutique hotel close to the UCSB campus and Santa Barbara, but I think the hotel needs to be more forthcoming with its current status versus leading visitors to think it is finished.

We arrived here, it's understood that the hotel is undergoing renovations, so there was some construction noise, but not bothersome.

We had a room with 2 double beds. My husband and I stayed here. How many towels in the bathroom? 1! Really??

There is no coffee maker in the room, no safe, and no refrigerator. No extra blankets or pillows in the closet.

We went to the front desk to ask for a restaurant recommendation for the next day, and the lady wouldn't even listen to us..."yes there's many nice restaurants but you're not going to be able to eat tonight, it's after 9."

It's worth it, to spend the extra money, and stay somewhere else. This hotel desperately needs the guy from Hotel Impossible to fix it!!

Right now the Motel in under construction. Very friendly helpful staff. and if you give this place a few months they'll have it finished. Just couldn't stay there even although we were checked into brand new rooms. There was no clean running water in the bathroom, no privacy drapes and the room badly smelled of paint. The swimming pool was not there, the noise, just a construction zone. I'm sure when they finish it's going to to be a very comfortable stay. Also, not a great area. We ended up back at the Canary Hotel downtown San Barbara.
