Bath Street Inn is a charming, moderately priced bed and breakfast in Santa Barbara with too many shortcomings. It is located on a pretty street just north of downtown and the decor in the common area is lovely. However, there is not much else to say about the property that is positive. All of the rooms are very small, and some are miniscule. We were shown one room in which the entire bathroom, including sink and shower, was located inside the very small bedroom. Only the toilet was located in a separate "room" in what must have been a small closet. The room we took did not even have room for a nightstand on both sides of the very small double bed and did not have a clothes closet. The bathroom was similarly very small. Although the room contained a double bed, presumably to accomodate two people, my husband and I had a difficult time moving around in our room, which was billed as one of the largest. Like many B & B's, the Inn serves wine and cheese in the late afternoon and breakfast the following morning. The wine and cheese couldn't have been of lower quality and the breakfast was hardly better. All in all, although not an expensive place in a very expensive market, the Bath Street Inn leaves much to be desired.

It is so very clear we were not a match for these guests, and we are genuinely sorry they were not comfortable and didn't enjoy their stay. We would have been happy to release them from their reservation and return their money had we known we weren't a good choice for them. No place will ever be a match for everyone, but it is clear from so many other reviews that we are a very good match for many people.

It is true that some of the rooms are smaller than others, and that seems to be a key factor for these guests. Actually the room where they stayed had a standard queen bed, (we do not have any double beds), and there was a full size closet in the bathroom. It is actually a very popular room with many guests having really enjoyed it including some return guests who repeatedly request it.
Obviously, they did not care for the cheeses. We serve a very good quality Jarlsberg Swiss, Danish Havarti and a fine Tillamook Cheddar. The wine is not an expensive wine, but we have had any number of people return from wine tasting in the Santa Ynez valley and tell us it is the best white wine they've had all day. Also, as is clear from innumerable reviews, most of our guests find our breakfasts quite good and/or outstanding as well as all our homemade baked goods.
