“Great free museum!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2014 via mobile

Saw a sign for this museum on a walk down to the beach from our hotel. Thought we would stop and check it out. What a cool museum about our history. All sort of different carriages, saddles, and old guns. Take the time to check this place out if you get a chance. Only open M-F 9 to 3. Definitely worth a visit.

“Very cool!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013 via mobile

I didn't know what to expect, but when we walked in I knew instantly. Wagons of all shapes and sizes from hearses to baby carriages. An overall western frontier feel. Rifles and saddles line the wall, along with chaps and spurs. The western town is really cool to see, and if you come before the Spanish Days festivals, you can see floats being made outside. What surprised me even more, if that the museum is free! If you have any interest in the West or the whole "Southwest" feel, then this is a place you should go!

“Carriage and horse tack museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013

This museum really has more saddles than carriages. You can look at them and follow the evolution of saddle styles over the years. It also has an excellent display of saddles with silver mountings which were probably parade saddles. The entire perimeter of the inside walls is covered with an Edward Borein frieze. The museum has no entry fee, just donations. Hours are limited, so check first. It is small and can be done in an hour.

“A piece of western history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

It's a little known spot in Santa Barbara even for the locals but it's a treasure and an exciting look at the way things were. The collection of saddles and tack, the Ed Borein art work, the old carriages and stage coaches are among the things to see. It's also available for rent for special occasions.

“A Wonderful interactive museum with a great collection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2013

On a rainy day in Dec. we took the kids to this museum and came out 2 1/2 hours later - with great understanding of the Santa Ynez Valley, visions of stage coaches in our heads and lots of ideas about life in the early days.
