First - that roof view is amazing! I would strongly recommend that you take lunch up there - next to Venice, Italy (!!) that was the best view I have ever had in an hotel. And you can bathe afterwards too! Despite being new, the decor is exquisite and olde worlde. Dining excellent. The rooms are simply sooo elegant too. You DO get noise - make sure your room is NOT by the emergency stairway exit - we were kept awake by bachelor party people going in and now for cigarettes (as it is of course a no-smoking hotel). Nasser - the wonderful manager - changed our room for the best in the place. Very centrally located - SB is a lovely town. Go to the Cheese Shop - amazing, amazing service and range of cheeses and wines. SB is pricey though and the hotel is too.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights as part of a 16 day west coast trip. It is definitely in a perfect location in Santa Barbara for access to shopping and the beach. We arrived early afternoon after a 4 hour drive from LA. When you pull into the parking area it is like a long corridor but with 3 staff ready to help you out of the car and with your bags it was a lovely greeting. Valet parking (which is the only type they offer is $20 per night – car park right next door and it is the same price. Check in was hassle free and we were delighted with our room on the 2nd floor which had a four poster bed. As I am small in height, I had to climb up on to it as it is quite high but it did not bother me. It was very comfy and we slept like babies. Room is not very large but has all the amenities you could need. Nice quirky touches in the room which made it feel more homely rather than the chain hotels. I would guess there are individual decors in each of the rooms. Bathroom is very clean but small with the shower over the bath and a little rubber duck is provided should you want to play in the bath! Old style bathroom fittings add to the different feel about the hotel. The pool is situated on the roof of the hotel and has stunning view of the city. It is again quite small (10 people in it and it will be crowded) but quite intimate and romantic we felt. There were about 15 beds around the pool to sit out and they were never full. There is a restaurant/bar on the roof also but both evenings we stayed had private functions there so we did not try it out.
We went into the bar one evening and it was busy enough, they don’t serve draft lager just bottles just in case you are lager drinker. Bar staff were very friendly and helpful about the local area.
We used the gym which was small but had all you would need for a workout.
In the morning, the hotel leaves coffee and tea out in the lobby for guests to take, if you want a Danish/croissant you can pay $2 for them. It was a nice touch. We went out for breakfast, there are loads of place who serve to all the visitors in the city so you will find one without any problem. A lot of them offer eggs Benedict with crab which was a nice start to the day.
We walked down to the beach area (takes about 15/20 minutes) and took the free tram back, it is a great service.
Good shopping with quirky boutiques selling individual style clothes were on offer, together with some of the usual brands.
Would definitely recommend this hotel if you staying in Santa Barbara and may not want to go down to the beach end as it is closer to the shopping/restaurant areas.
Hope you enjoy your visit as much as we did.

We stayed for three nights in an executive level king room. We had a wonderful experience at this hotel. From the guys parking the cars to the housekeeping, we never had an instant where our needs weren't immediately taken care of. We LOVED the rooftop deck and pool area. We went up there every day for cocktails, reading and relaxing. It was lovely. One of the nights the hotel hosted a wine tasting and it was great. I am glad we chose this hotel. We would stay there again in a minute. We didn't want to leave.

We were here as part of a two week holiday in California with our two teenage children and our five year old.

We came from the Mandarin Oriental in San Francisco so this was quite a contrast - very different style! I dont know why, but I didnt expect this hotel to be right in the centre of things, so initially I was disappointed about the location. Our room overlooked a multi storey carpark and I thought it would be overlooking the mountains. However, we enjoyed being so close to State Street. The rooms were very nice, although smaller than I expected. There was a yoga mat in the wardrobe and a yoga DVD which I found interesting!

We went out on State Street for dinner - the restaurants get very full so we couldnt get in where we wanted. We had just about the noisiest meal I have ever had in Joe's cafe, everyone seemed to be shouting, the acoustics were very bad. But at least we didnt have to control our five year old's volume for a change.

The breakfast at the hotel was very nice, service was all very good.

One terrible disappointment, my husband had to make a 30 minute business call which cost just under $300. We have tried to raise it with them but so far they are ignoring us. Shame.
