“Service can't be beat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

We attended a wedding in S.B. end of July 2012 and expected rooms to be average and service the same especially during the busy summer months. A pleasant surprise awaited us at this hotel. The manager Brian was right on the spot with forgotten toiletries such as deoderant, toothpaste etc., with no charge. Our accomodations had 2 queen size beds with excellent very comfortable mattresses and the bed linens were fresh looking, modern and up to date. The room was fresh and clean smelling. There was a desk in the room with equipped for high speed internet access, Room amenities were basic Best Western type, neither sparse nor luxurious which could be improved upon. There was a complimentary continental breakfast every morning with juices, coffee, tea, fresh fruit, bagels, cereals, yougurts, along with some hot items. Ambience - although it was "beach front" there was a street and a small park before you got to the water. The view was great from our 2nd floor room; the windows opened bringing in the fresh sea air which was a plus. I dislike rooms that have windows you can't open. The hotel has a pool in middle of courtyard that looked like an average small hotel pool. Linens were changed every day, if needed. Service in all areas of this hotel was pleasant and prompt and always with a welcoming smile and "can we do anything for you?". Priceless. The prices for the rooms were in the low $200.00 and along with tax and occupancy fees, resulted in approximately $260. a night. Overall I was very pleased with everything at the hotel. I would like to have had a better selection of toiletries, the basics were there. Checkout was quick and hassle free. Again, the manager, Brian, did an outstanding job of letting us know that our business was appreciated and bid us a fond adieu until next time.

Room Tip: "Ocean front" rooms have the best view. And 2nd floor was away from noise of foot traffic...

This Best Western was a pleasant surprise. Very clean. Great friendly staff. Terrific location and good value. The room was quite large with a balcony and view of Santa Barbara Harbor. Close to shopping and restaurants.

We spent 2 nights here & would do so again.

Check in was friendly & helpful.
When i saw the layout of the hotel I was concerned about noise as the hotel is on a corner with a lot of traffic.
The hotel is more motel like with rooms outside accessed by corridors.

Our room on the 3rd floor was large , clean & sunny. It overlooked the park.
The bed was extremely comfortable & surprisingly outside noise was minimum.

The bathroom is what I call a 2way- shower & toilet behind the bathroom door, then a small area outside with basin & mirror. This is personally something i like as 1 person can be showering & another getting ready. Also in this area is a place to hang clothes, iron & ironing board.

Breakfast was included in the rate but we didn't utilise as we are not breakfast people. Would rather have a discount on the rate. Wifi available & parking.

Location was quite good. Handy to Sterns wharf & beach.
It is quite a walk to State street, with the better shops at the far end.
We felt quite safe, walking around at night. We had to walk to State Street for dinner as there didn't seem to be much open around the hotel.

There is a 24 hr coffee house on the lower end of State street, fun atmosphere & good coffee. Free wifi.

We would stay again.

Room Tip: For a quieter room ask for 1 higher up.

I spent a weekend here as the lower-price option for a wedding block at a fancy resort nearby. I was actually surprised this was a Best Western, it looks a lot nicer than I was expecting. I was very impressed at how clean everything was - this is an open corridor building next to the beach, but there wasn't any warped wood, seagull poop or faded paint to be found. Kudos!

The staff was extremely friendly and did a great job of giving me lots of recommendations for places to go in town. The lobby area is very small, but other than breakfast, you just go there to checkin and out. The breakfast was mostly pre-packaged continental breakfast goods - nothing impressive.

The room was average size, bed was quite comfy and the bathroom has a separate door for the toilet which makes sharing easier. The room was immaculately clean, top to bottom it all looked good. I also liked the Best Western hygienic TV remote.

The view - oh man, the view - it was fantastic! I had a balcony looking right out on the beach, luckily the glass was thick so I didn't hear much street noise. If you're not used to 'city noise', you might find it bothersome. All in all, this hotel exceeded my expectations and I will most likely stay again.

Pros:
-Impressively clean
-Great staff
-Walking distance to everything (except airport)

Cons:
-Multiple staircases leading to different wings of the building were confusing due to lack of signage
-Breakfast was lackluster
-Slow elevators

We stay here only because of the location. The rooms are tiny. We can walk to our fav restaurants and to the beach (it is a very long walk to the pier and shopping). We don't stay in the Inn except to sleep. The "harbor view" rooms face the public pool. It is a busy, noisy location right on the street by the harbor and the public pool so there is constant noise and chatter and people watching. The birds in the trees across the street near the public pool make a lot of noise at night, but are amusing to watch squabble for night roosting territory. The staff is pleasant enough, just don't expect much unless you ask. The breakfast room was tiny and horribly overcrowded. We don't ever eat there, but it was standing room only. They did complete a recent remodel. The furniture and fixtures are odd, but adequate. I can't say it is for the better where the bath basin area is concerned. It is rather oddly laid out. No soap dish, so the soap slides everywhere.

Room Tip: Don't stay here if you want a nice room. Stay here if you want a location that is central to yo...

Chose this hotel based on location, which is good. Close to beach, harbor, wharf, shops, etc. Ocean side room had a big balcony, and surprisingly not loud being on a major busy street. Room was OK. Furniture seemed a bit old, outdated, but in good condition. King bed was comfortable.
Bathroom was oddly laid out, fixtures old. I can't remember the last time I had to turn both a hot and cold faucet to adjust temperature for the shower. The toilet is in a closet, in an attempt to make it private and separate it from the rest of the bathroom, but the space is way too small.
Hotel is dated, seemed kind of 'run-down'. Not dirty, just in need of an update and some TLC. Free Wi-fi was available, but was so slow it was painful. The only time it worked was very early AM, probably before most people were up and online.
Didn't use the pool, but it looked small.
Breakfast area is much too small for the number of guests, and very poorly laid out. There is no rhyme or reason to it, and far too few tables/chairs for the number of people. It is the lobby of the hotel, with the check-in desk in the middle of it all. Food was OK, although had to ask twice if they were going to replenish the empty orange juice pitcher. Waffles are pre-packaged and you put them through the toaster. Having stayed at other BW properties with 'make your own waffles' that was a disappointment. Also, there were eggs, but no protein, being used to either sausage or bacon at similar breakfast setups, it was also a disappointment.
My biggest complaint with the place was the staff. Check in clerk seemed almost annoyed that we were there. Attendant in the breakfast area gave me the same impression the next morning. As we ate breakfast, desk staff were busy (we sat right across from the check in desk) and someone (managerial type I assumed) kept coming and going, barking at them... didn't seem to be a pleasant atmosphere at all. I will say the one staff member who checked us out was friendlier than the one the night before, and offered to let us leave the car in parking while we enjoyed the area.
All in all, a bit overpriced for the amenities, but the location is probably the driving force behind the cost.

Clean, comfortable, roomy, quiet. Great view from balcony. Reasonable rate. We took breakfast back to our room because it was very busy. Safe parking. Pool heated. We would definitely stay again. Close to shopping and restaraunts.

Room Tip: Rooms with balcony overlooking harbor are nice.
