Description: Stella Mare’s is a Santa Barbara local’s favorite for lunch, brunch and dinner. French country recipes are offered with fresh fish, meats and poultry cooked on our wood-burning grill. Stella Mare's is perhaps one of the best examples of Santa Barbara style. Located between Montecito and Santa Barbara, this charming restaurant is housed in a historic landmark Victorian home, overlooking the Bird Refuge. The decor is French Provincial meets Santa Barbara style. The glass Greenhouse, with stunning views of the Bird Refuge, has cozy sofas, a fireplace, and a full service bar. “I'm so fortunate all over the world to find places that are very good that I can recommend, but I do have a short list of absolute musts. If you come anywhere near Santa Barbara, this is a must - Stella Mare’s, first of all, is so casual and homey. It's beautiful to look at, very relaxed atmosphere, and secondly the food is fantastic!” - Rachael Ray, Rachael’s Vacation Show - Food Network A bientot!

“Sufficient”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013 via mobile

We were with a large party and in view of that , everything was fine. Service very good but the whole food and comfort experience would have been better with a smaller group.

“The perfect place for a wedding party”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2013

Our friends chose this place for their wedding lunch, it had a beautiful porch area (complete with white picket fences) for canapes and cocktails, followed by lunch at a large table in a private area. We had a chicken dish and a chocolate pudding all were delicious!

“One of our Favorites!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2013

My wife and I love coming to this restaurant when we visit Santa Barbara. The atmosphere is really bright and unique in the big greenhouse room. The food is outstanding. My personal favorite is the french onion soup. The restaurant is right near a bird sanctuary, which makes for an enjoyable walk afterwards.

“Magnifique!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2013

Had a belated birthday lunch with a couple of family members. We sat in the renovated conservatory/greenhouse which is a beautiful setting especially on a partly cloudy spring day. There are other dining rooms and a terrace out front. The restaurant walls are a cheerly yellow with white trim - charming. White tablecloths, nice floral arrangements and comfortable dining chairs add to the ambiance of a French country restaurant. We shared a couple of appetizers - escargots and moules (mussels). Both were traditionally prepared and excellent. The bread could be better - difficult to find good European style bread in Santa Barbara - D'Angelos is usually the best but is really Austrian/German rather than French. My special of the day salmon salad was delicious - a perfectly grilled, generously portioned filet, perfectly tender butter lettuce, shaved strawberries, luscious goat cheese and orange segments with a citrus vinaigrette. The Croque Monsieur seemed a bit over the top with a cream sauce in addition to the usual preparation. The steak frites was perfectly prepared to medium rare, Bearnaise sauce was a rich addition. Thankfully the dishes were presented in a enticingly straightforward way - without indicating as Julia Child would say that the chef and assistants fussed over and handled every item numerous times. We finished the meal with a shared lavender creme brulee - beautiful and delicious with three perfect berries - blue, rasp, black. We also shared a bottle of local Gainey Sauvignon Blanc - also delicious. Our waiter was helpful, attentive, knowledgeable - there when needed but not obtrusive. All in all highly recommended for a leisurely lunch where excellent mostly local ingredients are prepared to bring out their inherent flavors. - nice return to civilization as one of my companions said as we left.
