“Milo? Meh”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 days ago NEW

Milo sounded like the perfect hotel for our second of five hotels we would be staying at on our trip up the SoCal coast. It is just a few steps from the water, our room had a nice view of it and the hotels' grassy common area but it just didn't live up to our expectations. Don't get me wrong, the room we stayed in was spacious and had everything we needed but the devil was in the details; no counter space in the bathroom, no mirror either. The wash sink was in an alcove just outside the bathroom, the shower/bath was tired and stained and subject to sudden changes in temperature. There was no hair dryer and we had to ask for ice. The front desk was overwhelmed when we arrived and had to wait a long time for service and the breakfast room was too small and poorly laid out for the flow of diners.
Would I stay at the Milo again? Not likely. Would I recommend the Milo to others? No.

We only stayed in this hotel for one night. The rooms were nicely decorated and the toiletries were great. We were staying with two children and felt the rooms were small. The main problem was no air conditioning!!! A fan was provided but it was noisy making it an uncomfortable nights sleep. We did mention at reception and they told us the hotel was being taken over and a/c units were being put in each room.
The pool is small but good for the kids and we were happy with the breakfast selection. The breakfast room was small though and I imagine its gets really busy at certain points!
The location is good as near the pier and just across from the beach. I probably would stay in this hotel when it has air conditioning. When that may be wasn't made clear so I would check this out before booking.

Room Tip: Ask for a room upstairs as we had one in the bottom floor near a stairwell which was a bit noisy.

Arrived in mid October, 2014 and check in lined up with only one person checking guests in - a lot of frustration from everyone waiting to see check-in associate - either to check in or express their frustration about their rooms ...our 1st room was a bit of a shock - way in back with only a bed - no chairs to sit on .... We were there for three days so room very unsuitable - we went back to the check-in line up and after we're moved to a room that was much more suitable ....we loved the location & the staff very good & helpful....continental breakfast was excellent....

Room Tip: Walls thin in our room - could hear people talking in other room - no air conditioning in hotel - so...

Had a great trip to Santa Barbara and stayed at Hotel Milo for three nights. Honestly I was a bit hesitant to stay here after reading some of the reviews, but I did not encounter any of the troubles that others had experienced. I booked the hotel for our anniversary and the hotel provided us with a complimentary bottle of wine upon our arrival. The room was good (stayed in 222) and spent a lot of time in the outdoor seating area next to our room (which had an ocean view). The staff was friendly and helpful, and the free bike rental was a nice plus. The breakfast is ok, mostly bread, muffins, cereal, fruit, etc. the location is really nice, literally right across from the beach, but a bit of a walk to State street and night life (if you are looking for that). The room was a little hot at times, but we stayed here in October, so not a big deal at the time. I would definitely come back to stAy here again.

Room Tip: Something on the upper floor

my wife and I had 3 days at the Fess Parker. The room was nice and clean , a good size and a nice balcony. The rooms are arranged over several buildings and can be a walk to the main hotel. The fine dining restaurant was very good but there was only one other couple there so atmosphere was lacking. On our second night we opted for bar food , but due to a power outage in the whole of Santa Barbara. Once the power came back on the staff worked like mad to get food out. Excellent. The valet was very efficient. The pool was nice and open till late. Which was great as a heatwave hit. Overall a nice stay and a good location.

The room was average, nice and clean, however it was noisy late at night and was very expensive. The smoke detector went off at 1 am and then at 1:15 it was discovered it had not had battery replaced in over a year. I would probably stay again but only if price was much cheaper.

Dear Rhonda,

Thank you for reviewing our hotel. I hope you were able to enjoy your visit here in Santa Barbara. I want to profusely apologize for you smoke alarm. That is not typical of a stay here. We want people to feel rested and at one with our sunny beach community, and that definitely would put a damper on that. I would love to have you back and experience Hotel Milo. Please let me know when you are back in the area and I would love to personally ensure that your next stay is flawless.

Most sincerely,

Chelsea Beach

We wanted a hotel in a good position as we were staying for 3 or 4 days, so we knew it would not be cheap. The hotel is on the seafront and the price reflects that, and on top of that you have the various resort fees and taxes which included the Wi-Fi so in effect this was not provided. Plenty of parking available. The room was on the first floor with a veranda that you could sit on.
The room was not over large but was clean. Easy walking distance to the main area for shops, restaurants etc. Reception staff were polite and helpful. We had thought we would stay one more night but this happened to be a Saturday and the price was way too high, but for the 3 nights we stayed the price reflected what was provided. Would stay there again.
