“Always great good and wine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

Been to this restaurant several times over the last year but this last time was incredible. The Elk special is the best I have every had and paired perfectly with the wine they selected. I usually have the duck from regular menu which is also great.

The salads, desserts and wine list are also great.

This is a must try place if you like french type food.

It is a great atmosphere and a good place for a business dinner.

“Excellent value but needs some work.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

This was our 2nd night dinning experience on our 4-night stay in Santa Barbara. I should first qualify my review since our visit followed a full day of wine tasting in the Santa Ynez valley. We selected the restaurant in advance of our trip based on the trip advisor recommendations and ratings. The restaurant is quaint and casual in a Santa Barbara sense but in a comfortable way. The menu was limited but looked rather inventive, the execution, however, left something to be desired. My wife's breaded veal medallions were over cooked, slightly burned, while my surf-in-turf (medallions of pork with mussels, shrimp and scallops over pasta) was over salted. The wait staff could be a little more attentive and knowledgeable. Overall, a 3 1/2 based on its very good value for the menu selection, but could use more attention in kitchen. Would return to see if it were an off-night and would suggest to friends with the same caveat.

“Wonderful french bistro”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2013

Located in a lovely arcade off State Street, this lovely French bistro does not disappoint. Tonight, the place was packed with pre theatre crowd but the service was attentive and the food well priced and delicious. The pork tenderloin, meat pate, salads and fish were all just great. Looking forward to our next visit.

“Great value for a delicious meal in Santa Barbara!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

Heeded Trip Advisor's advice and booked a reservation at this wonderful little spot in Santa Barbara. Please note that the entrance is off an outdoor arcade behind State Street where there are a few outdoor tables as well.

Our meal was wonderful! The place was busy on a Tuesday evening -- but our service was excellent. We shared a great salad, had very creative main dishes and finished with excellent dessert and good coffee. The wine list is well chosen and very fairly priced. As a matter of fact, the entire meal was very, very fairly priced.

Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves immensely and I must say I would readily return to this great spot to dine on the fabulous, creative meals.

“Excellent food but very busy.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

This restaurant is in an arcade off State Street but it is well worth seeking out. It is also advisable to make a booking, especially in the high season. The food was beautifully cooked and the menu had many imaginative dishes and original tastes. The wine list was more than enough to match the menu. We enjoyed our meal so much that we contemplated going back the following night even though we only had two nights in Santa Barbara. Eventually we decided against it and although we had a fine meal elsewhere I still rather regret not giving Le Petit Valentien another go.
