“Great place for a runner.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2011 via mobile

This hotel is magic. In spite of wanting to stay and read by the pool, I ran every morning. The path took me along a beach, up a stair case, down a hill, and around a bird sanctuary. I was feeling lazy so I did not run the rest of the lovely beach. The pass to the Casino, aka health club/pool was welcomed as another great place to hang out. They still have a diving board! Don't miss out on this fantastic hotel.

A wonderful retreat for mature adults (and children as well). The hotel is luxurious from the grounds to the rooms to the Beach Club. It has a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere.

We were given a room in the main part of the hotel and felt it was a bit musty (Santa Barbara humidity). We received a room in the cabana or cabin type dwellings and the room was fantastic.

Room Tip: Request a hard wood floor rather than a carpeted room.

Just returned from a mini-holiday at the Biltmore. Very charming & private (not tourist-y, no nightlife) hotel with greenery that reminds one of being in a jungle. Friendly gardeners all over the place keep everything tidy and picture-perfect. Great hot tubs (94F & 104F) to relax in, nice treat to be able to use the Coral Casino Beach Club across the street; even in October the oceanfront club was a lovely way to spend a sunny afternoon. No wi-fi continues to amaze me for a Four Seasons Resort (did not pack laptop), but I managed to keep in touch back home with Business Centre computers.
Pack some extra money and some walking shoes as the restaurant & lounge are pricey ($32 breakfast buffet) and the town of Santa Barbara is a pleasant but three mile walk away. Go up the street behind the hotel (15 minute walk?) if you need a coffee-stop or something from the CVS Pharmacy - I wasn't aware of this area on day one...take-out coffee from the restaurant was $6. Heard another couple paid $25/day for a rental car but $35/day to park at the hotel! Our Taxi ride from the airport was $45+tip but the driver gave us his card and told us he'd give us $10 off our return trip if we contacted him directly. We did - he did- Nice guy.
Room 340 was comfortable with a nice patio set against a 'canal' of water fountains (no doubt to muffle the sound) hidden behind the pool area, however at times neighbours beside & above didn't add to the tranquility! Linens are high-threadcount and heavenly for sleeping, bath products are wonderful L'Occitane brand. Gerbera Daisy placed in the bathroom was a nice touch from very friendly housekeeping staff. Common areas smell like the ocean & the jungle - Imagine lush & green with a hint of ocean! September is apparently high-conference time...probably saw only a dozen kids the entire 5-night stay; perfect place for a nice getaway with your loved one.

Room Tip: Rooms are mainly set within little cottage-areas...only 12 or so rooms have any kind of ocean view...

I have been to this hotel every year for the past 20 years or so. I loved it before it was renovated as the setting, architecture, rooms etc were beautiful and luxurious. Now that it has been redone, it is totally over the top...if you want an architecturally important building with deluxe rooms that are totally 1920's California, with all the amenities of the 21st century, with an unmatched setting for beauty, then this is your hotel. Set right on Butterfly Beach with a pool that juts out into the ocean in an art deco palace, the california spanish inspired architecture of the hotel with the backdrop of the the mountains is nothing short of spectacular. The restaurants are beautiful as are the grounds. All in all just an A+. The town is just a short bike ride away and is unique. The Spa is awesome and all facilities are primo. I highly suggest this hotel...it is quite pricey, but worth every penny. The staff is great and friendly....every experience here has been nothing short of spectacular.

Room Tip: Try not to get too close to the train tracks as sometimes a whistle during the night may wake you...

We spend 3 nights in the hotel after having a 3 week trip through California. The reviews we read here where wonderful so we thought we made the right choice and I think for Santa Barbara we certainly did however it did not meet Four Seasons expectations.

We have stayed at a lot of FS hotels around the world but this one was the first in the USA.
When we arrived at 15.45 we were told that our room was not ready and we had to wait for 15 minutes. Normally they offer you a drink or something but we just had to walk around, me being 7 months pregant. Not a good start.

We booked a deluxe fireplace room and were brought to our room at 16.00. The first thing I noticed was that I could really hear the highway rushing by. I decided to give it an hour but it was too loud to open a door or window so we went to reception. The guy at reception who was not helpfull said the hotel was full so we could not change rooms. We went back to our room and than heard the train rushing by. I felt like being in motel next to the highway other than being at a Four Seasons hotel.

After hardly any sleep we went to reception again where we were helped by a very nice girl who understood our problem and changed us to a room with a lot less noise. We were very happy being moved.

The hotels itself is very nicely done, nice pools, nice distance from Santa Barbara and nice grounds. Also the breakfast and dinners we had every night were ok. Meal quality for dinner just ok, service wonderful.

Some things are just not sorted up to FS standard. Turndown service very basic (just closing the curtains) and when we wanted to rent a complimentary bicycle they told us that they only had 10 bikes for the whole resort and that they where all gone.

All in all, we would not return to the FS, it is a nice hotel, but nowhere near a Four Seasons experience hotel like the ones we visited and left a memory like: FS Hong Kong, FS Langkawi, FS Provence, FS Landaa at Giraavary, FS Kuda Hura, FS Bora Bora, FS Bali, FS Mauritius and FS Sharm el Sheik.

My husband and I stayed at this resort at the end of a two and a half week stay in the States and it was such a treat.

The service was impeccable and the resort was beautiful, offering a whole range of facilities.

We took a dip in the hot tub by the pool every evening before going out for dinner. It was so relaxing and so pretty too, watching the lights come on as it became dark. With its ocean views, even the treadmill in the gymnasium was a pleasure.

We loved the bar area in the hotel, where the staff were particularly friendly and very helpful with their advice and wine recommendations.

We were impressed with the range of restaurants on Coast Village Road (directly behind the hotel) and had a fun afternoon in 'Cava'. We'd also recommend 'the Chase' restaurant in Santa Barbara; great food and a lively atmosphere.

First time at a Four Seasons hotel and hopefully not the last - we loved it!
