“simple and perfect”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

This motel is on State street, a few blocks north of shopping in Santa Barbara. My room was clean, had the basics. No microwave, but it did have a refrigerator. No continental breakfast, but I rarely eat at those anyway, so this was not an issue for me. Probably my only complaint would be that the bed was harder than I like. There is a lot to do, within walking distance. Santa Barbara is beautiful and this place was the perfect, affordable place to stay to enjoy that beauty. Loved the upstairs deck too!

Room Tip: 10 was good to me-upstairs.

This was a second stay at the Presidio and we would stay again. It has a lot going for it, in pleasant decor, location a few blocks from the downtown strip, inviting sun deck, easy free parking, and uniformly helpful staff. The bathroom was good sized, and there were lots of TV channels.
Issues: The wall heater was quite noisy and could only be turned on or off, no temp control. To be fair, the clerk said the unit was due to be replaced in the next few days. (On a previous visit in Summer, the AC worked well, although the controls took a little practice.) The Wifi in our rooms (upstairs in back) was erratic.

Room Tip: Upstairs in back is very quiet.

The sign in the lobby read "Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence". I don't know how these signs get handed out but I have now sadly learnt not to place any reliance them. In over 40 years of travelling the world together, my wife and I have never before taken our bags a room and refused to stay despite having already paid for it. Sound insulation seemed non-existent, no double glazing at a place next to the major road in Santa Barbara other than the freeway and a 'fragrance' we (thankfully) couldn't quite place. Very sad. We spoke to the pleasant receptionist who said the proprietor was unavailable but would call us. She didn't and we eventually got through to her the next morning. Despite having re-let the room immediately (she said), she refused to offer us any rebate. Thankfully, her need was clearly greater than ours.

We had a nice welcome from the girl on the reception desk and were able to check in early. Ours was a clean spacious room upstairs with high ceiling, great work desk, large bathroom and fridge. If this place were somewhere other than SB it would probably be less money but it’s a good value option in a pricier town. More positives are the nice deck to sit out on to watch the main street, the complimentary beachcomber bikes and the free parking,

Motel is quite basic but comfortable and clean.
Shower was pathetic really but we only stayed for one night. Unfortunately our room was in a "passageway" so was quite dark.
If you need a bed for the night and you dont want to be too far out and you need parking it is a good place to stay but not for long I feel!!

Room Tip: Avoid the one in the passageway - I think there is only one as it is darker than all the others? Sor...

Stayed three nights at the motel. The location is excellent. Walking distance to many attractions! Loved the free beach cruisers to explore the area. Room was clean and good sized. Stayed upstairs for last two nights and room was quieter. For the price it's an excellent value! Staff was very helpful and I would definitely stay there again.

After a long drive from Monterey, the Presidio Motel offered a great welcome. It's a traditional motel renovated to modern standards, the location was excellent and the room was beautifully clean and well appointed. We only spent one night here but it offered us exactly what we needed, a quiet comfortable room and I would recommend the Presidio Motel!
