“smelly and yucky”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

Stay here only if you want a terrible smelling room, bed linens that should have been put to rest many years ago, very run down. This hotel is not even in the category of budget but more like step above camping.

If you are looking for a basic, budget motel in very expensive Santa Barbara, this is the place for you. It has recently been very tastefully updated so the reviews about it's shabbiness are entirely outdated. We payed $90 off season for a king room that was clean, fresh and very attractive. I can't say anything negative about Sunset Motel, unless you want to be in the midst of the action and are willing to pay the price for it. A great bonus is Max's restaurant right next door where you can pick up a fabulous breakfast to get your day started.

A drive out from the sea front where the chain motels are. We paid $90 for a spotless room with two queen beds and a double sofa bed, which round here is good for the location. Santa barbera isn't cheap. The staff were really friendly, the wi fi fast.

This was the worst motel I've ever stayed in. It cost over $100. for a dated, ugly, dirty room and bathroom. The towels and washcloths were so threadbare, I couldn't believe they still used them. Everything in the room was OLD and needed replacing. I'll never stay there again.

Plan ahead! Only place available for holiday weekend @$168.00! Run down, paper thin towels for shower, but, worst of all, when we called they said pets are allowed, we have a small dog of 10 pounds, but no, upon arrival a $100.00 fine for pets is their policy. Little Sammy stayed in the car for the night - deceptive deceitful evasive - not worth the money!

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else, like the Oasis down the street where we stayed for two more nights during our a...

We only stayed over night at this place which was ok, but won't go there for a longer stay. Romms are small & dirty, quite rundown. Don't walk there barefood after a shower, you might have to wash your feed again after they get in touch woth the floor. Sink, shower & toilet look like there been there a long time eithout much attention in terms of cleaning.
For 69.99+ you can't expect too much...

Upstairs rooms are the same but $10 more!
Service is ok, woudn't say friendly, there's nobody in the morning at the front desk.

Have a look at the room before you check in & decide for yourself if the roomrate of the day fits with what you get.

On our way home from Monterey & needed to stop for the night. Unfortunately neglected to make reservations, for the one night & of coarse, it was a Saturday night. After checking several places - no vacancies & seeing several other "no vacancy" signs - we hesitantly pulled into Sunset Motel parking. We were both exausted & when we were told they had a vacancy & price of the room, I mindlessly said yes - (1) without registering the price that was quoted & (2) without looking at the room. Both really BIG MISTAKES! We had just spent a night earlier in the week at a Marriot, which was FAR BETTER & LESS EXPENSIVE. This place is a dump!! The ONLY consolation was that, unfortunately, there were others that got there were other unsuspecting travelers that got ripped off, too. I would rate this place BELOW Motel 6 & over priced by at least a hundred dollars.
