“Attractive motel on a budget in Santa Barbara”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2014

This motel is on really pretty grounds and has two lovely, clean pools. When researching accommodation in Santa Barbara I realised pretty quickly that our budget wasn't going to stretch to a hotel within an easy walk of the beach or downtown. So, while the Sandmann Inn is situated on State Street, Santa Barbara's main drag, it is still a good 10 minute drive from downtown State Street itself. That said, there are plenty of restaurants, a WholeFoods Market and even a Macy's within walking distance.

In terms of the accommodation itself, the rooms are bright and airy and look freshly painted. There's also free wifi, breakfast included and a DVD library with a good TV and DVD player in every room. The only negatives were that the beds were a bit too soft for my liking and the bathroom seemed a little tired. But overall a very pleasant, budget option in a ritzy, expensive town.

Room Tip: We were first assigned a room right beside the diner where breakfast is served. I imagine that if yo...

We stayed in this hotel for one night in June 2014. The check-in process was good. A very courteous gentleman did our check-in and offered various room choices to pick one from. He was also helpful in suggesting dinning places in the neighborhood as well as downtown since we asked him being new to the area. The room condition is rather dated. I believe the building construction is really old. The worst part was when guests up-stairs had some physical activity we in downstairs were hearing a lot of rattling noise and could not sleep well. The dated construction also affects the bathroom shower area. The hot and cold knobs were swapped in the bathroom. We reported that on our check-out. In-room wi-fi was free. The cable TV (flat-screen) and DVD player were new. Bed was comfortable and room was clean. The breakfast was free and with more than adequate choices for a low cost motel. The breakfast room was also clean and large. This is the only reason I will give it a 3-star and not a two-star. Overall experience was not bad. I would say that this is definitely a value hotel. for one or two nights at the best.

Our room was beside the pool and was spacious and clean. The setting was lovely and relaxing after our long trip from the UK. Fridge and coffee making facilities in room and bottles of water were supplied. There was a dining table and chairs and comfy bed. Breakfast was adequate, but dining room a bit basic.

A budget Inn located far away from beach and town, a value stay considering expensive hotel rate in Santa Barbara. Room was big, but with dated furniture & not very clean, air conditioning was noisy and smelly air blown out, so we ended up turning on the fan instead.
Breakfast was decent & basic, wifi were dead & slow. We stayed one night only, so we thought it was fine. But if you were looking for beach vacation, stay somewhere else.

Don't profess to be anything more than a budget motel, and it does what it said on the tin. Bit of hassle on check in try to move to a room on a higher floor, but they sorted it at the second attempt. A little noisy but great value for the money. Breakfast room is a bit of a free for all but its free so can't grumble too much.

Room Tip: If you don't succeed first time, be persistent.

A large room, clean, comfortable bed - but a noisy clunky airconditioner. We didn’t get a decent sleep. There is also an overhead fan but it didn’t work in our room. Poor lighting in the room. The bathroom is old and needs renovation. The breakfast was better than average however the breakfast room was small and crowded. The price is “cheap for Santa Barbara” but still expensive for what you get. There is nothing special about the location - it is a 5-10 minute drive to get anywhere of interest. Try another motel.

The rooms were clean and functional. But if you want a better experience, take rooms which are not on the ground floor. we could hear footsteps in the morning from the room above us.The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was adequate. Overall a nice place to stop in

Room Tip: Higher floor will have less noise.
