“Friendly, affordable lodging”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2012

When we return home to Santa Barbara we always stay at the Sandman Inn. It is the most economical lodging in town. While "vintage" it has been well maintained. This last stay new double pane windows had been installed to decrease the noise level. It was indeed much quieter while being centrally located to shopping restaurants, shopping, tourist attractions and an easy drive to beaches. Our family reserved 12 rooms and enjoyed the lovely pool and hot tub area. The breakfast room is vintage 60's, including the music. There was a wide assortment of choices for all tastes, and they were very patient with the commotion created by our little ones. The families with children were able to reserve 2 bedroom suites at a very reasonable rate for Santa Barbara. The staff we friendly and accomodating. Santa Barbara motels are generally very expensive and old. The Sandman stands out as an excellent, dependable value.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms around the pool or in the quad behind it.

Stayed here at the end of our trip for 2 nights.. i was really disappointed that we couldn't spend an extra few nights here..Santa Barbara is a perfect holiday location and I couldn't fault the hotel in any way. It had a nice pool and the rooms were big - all for a great price. Will definitely stay here again!!

We stayed 2 nights while exploring the area. The rooms were fine, vintage but clean and remodeled, with small fridge, coffeemaker, and microwave. Breakfast was good (extensive continental choices and good coffee) in a very cool, though small, Route 66-decorated room. Flat screen tv and parking in front of room. Customer service was efficient, friendly, and gave us great recommendations from a local's perspective on dining. The location was good with easy access to downtown, historical places, and the highway. There are two pools which we relaxed by with a glass of wine but were mainly empty as it was winter. Excellent value and we will stay there again.

Room Tip: We chose the Run of the Inn special which was the bargain deal because it was nonrefundable. The roo...

So simple and so perfect. Sure, I missed a bath tub, but the Sandman Inn knows what makes a pool is its landscaping. We could have hung out there all day, day after day. And the 50's diner--it's amazing what a little bit of imagination can do for a place. When I compare their breakfast room to the usual fair and decoration in motels across the country, the Metamucil feel, the complete lack of energy or inspiration, I breathe a sigh of relief for the Sandman Inn. The lobby staff were all young, intelligent, relaxed, and helpful. The maids and maintenance crew were extremely pleasant and efficient. In general it was a happy, clean, laid back place. It's like the pop tarts served at breakfast. Whether you let your kids eat them or not, it's a nice step out of the box.

We selected this hotel after reading several good reviews. When we checked in I was pleased to see computers and a coffee and tea station. (I like a cup of tea at the end of the day). Our room was fine. The bed was comfortable and it was nice to have free bottled water waiting for us. The bathroom was ancient. It seemed clean, but since it was so old it was hard to tell. We also found cobb webs in the corner of the room. This drives me crazy because then I start to wonder about the rest of the room. The best and biggest surprise was the breakfast room. It was decorated as a 50's diner. Very fun, very clean and a great selection of food.

Stayed here in February. Beautiful location & the complimentary breakfast is great. 2 heated pools, spa & free wi-fi in your room. Cannot be beat for the rate.

Cute hotel in convenient location, very helpful staff and satisfying breakfast choices. The rooms / bathrooms are dated and the bathrooms could really use some updating but that wasn't enough of a reason to vote lower. Only other negative comment I will make is that their towels are in need of replacement - very thin and rough. We never had an issue with noise due to the hotel being set back off the street and we enjoyed popping into the lobby for the ever present fresh juice, coffee or tea. It was our first trip to Santa Barbara and would definitely rebook at this location if we return for more wine tasting. :)
