“Mistake in Montecito”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2006

Service was almost nonexistent, very noisy (lack of insulation typical in "historic hotels"), room was small with a musty smell. We were expecting more since it had a three star rating. Would not stay there again. Unfortunately, we were underwhelmed by the Fess Parker Hotel in the same area. Is there a better place to stay up there without spending $500 a night?

My boyfriend and I spent a night at the Montecito Inn in Dec. It's a charming, quaint hotel located in a fabulous area, just a few blocks from the Pacific.
Great place to stay if you're looking for quiet. Restaurants and outdoor opportunities abound.

This adorable hotel was just perfect. From the beautiful rooms, location (right in Montecito), staff & amenities. The staff was warm, friendly and very helpful in helping making our vacation a time to remember. We've stayed in many hotels in the Santa Barbara area & we think this one is the best...and you especailly can't beat the COMPLIMENTARY valet parking. You cant beat this great find! If you want a charming place to stay...this is it.

This hotel was so great! It is in the best part of town. I have stayed all over Santa Barbara and I recommend this one to everyone traveling to that area. The staff there were all so accomodating and nice! Our stay was great right from the moment we got there. There is complimentary valet parking, which was great because usually it is about $10 per day. Then we were greeted by a friendly staff! the rooms are so charming and romantic! This hotel made our trip!

This was the highlight of our trip. We started in Napa and worked our way to Southern CA. The stay at this Inn was fabulous. Intimate, the Charley Chaplin influence, and great staff. Plus what a wonderful little town for shopping. Don't miss a little store called Objects. My wife spent two hours there and she is NOT a shopper. Overall, this Inn was just small enough and nice enough to rate a 5 STAR from me. Not fancy, but very COOL!!!

Montecito is a great little town. This is my second time staying at the Montecito Inn. We stayed there in September of 2002 and liked the quaintness of the inn. We didn't LOVE it the first time we stayed there, but thought we'd give it another chance since we heard the rooms were renovated just recenty. We just got back from a 2 night stay and here are our thoughts:

1) No A/C. Our room faced Coast Village Drive and we found it quite noisy since we had to leave our window open for the air. There is a fan in the room, but definitely not sufficient to cool the room. It's no fun going on a romantic weekend getaway when the room is hot & humid. :(

2) No A/C. Did I mention that there was no A/C.?

3) The staff was inconsistent. Although the valet was friendly and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, the front desk staff was not hospitable.

4) The breakfast is plain. Coffee, juice, and pastries- nothing to write home about and not very good. They charge you $5 per person if you want to have it brought up to your room in the morning. Uhmm.. I'd rather spend $3 at the Starbucks down the street for better coffee & Pastry.

5) The room looks worn. I can't believe they just renovated the rooms. It looks just as small, dark, dingy, and old as I remember from 3 years ago. In addition, the room is small- especially the bathroom. The shower doors had mold growing around it and the floor is an old linoleum. You cannot fit 2 adults in the bathroom. My boyfriend is 6'3", 220 pounds, and he could barely fit in the bathroom by himself with the door closed.

In conclusion, although this is a cute & quaint hotel, I just expect more for $225/nt. If in the summer, I would not recommend because there is no A/C. Not worth the $$. Probably will not stay again.

I've never stayed in a hotel in Southern California that does not have A/C at this price point. The room was too hot, even when it was only 75 degrees outside in the day. Also there was quite a lot of noise from the kitchen below even during a weekday.
