We travel up the CA coast often to visit family in the Bay area and often stop mid-way for a break. There's no better place to refresh yourself than Santa Barbara and our home away from home there is the Eagle Inn. We've probably stayed at a dozen places and once we tried the Eagle Inn (based on other TripAdvisor reviews) we've never strayed. The cottage rooms are our favorite as they are quiet and spacious but we've never been disappointed in any of the rooms (and we always try a different one). The complimentary breakfast is just enough to sustain you through the morning. Lots of places to eat within walking distance with a great residential location near the harbor and wharf. Staff are friendly and helpful. Love their energy-saving measures, from lighting (your key card activates room lights so when you leave they automatically shut off), to recycling newspapers, to the option to reuse towels a second day. Warm cookies in the afternoon, coffee/tea 24 hours and free use of their PC. Check out last-minute specials on their website; frequent guests occasionally get substantial discounts by email. What's not to love?

My husband and I showed up without reservations on a Sunday night looking for a room for 2 nights. The front desk staff was delightful. She showed us the 2 rooms she had available and let us decide which we wanted. Unfortunately, we could not have the same room for 2 nights so we packed our things when we left in the morning and in the afternoon when we returned from sghtseeing, our bags were waiting in our new room. (She discounted the rate an additional 10% for the inconvenience but we didn't blame them because we did not have reservations.) First we were in the Santa Catalina Cottage and we thought it was luxurious. It was newly remodeled, clean and beautifully furnished. We felt like we were staying in a friend's home, not a hotel. The second night we were in the Santa Rosa Cottage which was larger, even nicer and had a small kitchenette and a balcony. Again, we didn't feel like we were in a hotel, it felt like a beautiful home. Both rooms had a large jetted tub, fireplace and flat screen TV. We paid $220/night during the summer which we thought was a good rate.

There are several buildings that make up the hotel complex. The main building is in a residential neighborhood (there are a few other low profile hotels neaby also) and they have purchased several of the homes immediately around the main building so you really are in a home, not a large institutional building with long hallways. It's much more intimate and homelike so it feels like a B&B not a hotel.

Breakfast was nice and included in the room rate. It was a two block walk to the main beach road where a trolley runs up and down the road if you don't want to walk. We had a wonderful stay here and I would recommend it as a very luxurious, romantic getaway at a reasonable rate in a great location.

  • Liked — Beautifully decorated rooms that felt like a home not a hotel.
  • Disliked — Nothing to dislike, everything was great.

My husband and I stayed at the Eagle Inn for the first 2 nights of our honeymoon, and it was a great stay. Knowing that it was our honeymoon, the Inn upgraded us from the king with fireplace room, to one of their private bungalows with a whirlpool tub. It was amazing!!! It was the best of B&B rooms we stayed in all week.

The Inn staff were very friendly and helpful, providing us maps and information on things to do and places to eat in the area.

We DEFINITELY plan to stay at the Eagle Inn again in the future.

  • Liked — Fantastic room and amenities. Very close to the beach.
  • Disliked — They only serve a Continental breakfast.

We stayed at the Eagle Inn for 1 night on our tour of California. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful and went out of her way to get information for us. We had a room with 2 double beds which was very nicely decorated. There were several fans in the room which we needed as it was very warm and it would have benefitted from air conditioning. The buffet breakfast was adequate but could have been replenished quicker. There was free internet use. The hotel was in quiet palm tree lined street and was in a good location near the beach. We went to a bistro type bar which was recommended by the receptionist and had a lovely meal. The town centre was about 1 mile away.

  • Liked — large clean room, location
  • Disliked — no air conditioning

We had a chance to stay here for 1 night this past September while driving the coast up through California. What a fantastic little inn...so glad we booked it here...it is a hidden gem. We had booked a Deluxe King but when we checked in, we were delighted to find out we had been upgraded to a Superior King with a whirlpool (thanks Paul!!!). We were thrilled as we were 3 days into our fast paced trip and jet lag/no sleep had set in. Well....more surprises awaited us. When we opened our eyes we could not believe what the staff had done for us....there were rose petals scattered all around the whirlpool tub and a bottle of champagne with 2 glasses on ice waiting for us....how did they know this was just what the doc had ordered....LOL Needless to say, touring Santa Barbara was put on the back burners. It was a fantastic set-up for our 25th wedding anniversary....thanks to all the wonderful staff who helped.

The room was also fantastic...2 tv's (hubby was in heaven), sitting area, king size bed, great bathroom with a nice size shower with all the ameneties. The room itself was big and roomy with lots of place to sprall out our 4 large pieces of luggage. French doors looked out over the pristine residential area with shade trees and gardens. And it was so clean....very impressed

The location was perfect. We walked to the harbor for dinner....7 minutes (maybe). And of course the beach was about the same. I would say it was about a 10/15 minute walk to the wharf area although we did not walk it.

Breakfast the next day was very good and they had a computer with printer that we took advantage of to print out some info on SB.

All in all, Eagle Inn was fantastic. If you are looking for a clean charming inn close to everything this is the place to stay....you will not be sorry!!
