Lots of chain stores now !! But they still have the old S.B. atmosphere on parts of the street. Off of State street there are place that are vary interesting !

“Fun to walk down but a couple negatives”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

We enjoyed the state street area, but thought the shops were mostly retail/chains without a lot of unique character. We also really enjoyed the wharf area, which did not feel nearly as touristy as we expected. However, we experienced a sad abundance of a homeless population on State street (at all times of day/night) that was intrusive during our time there. It was very difficult to see.

“The main drag that makes the town tick”

If you stay in SB, there is no way to avoid State Street. Great shops and restaurants. Take the electric bus to the end and work your way down hill

“Better than a mall...if that's what you're looking for”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

State Street is basically a downtown area with all of today's mall stores and a few independent places. You'll also find a bunch of restaurants. There is also good people-watching, if you enjoy seeing homeless people asking for money from wealthier shoppers. I wouldn't call this a destination, but if you're in town it's a pretty good strolling area.
