“Better than others around”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

Was in Irvine on business. I passed on the Embassy Suites and LaQuinta nearby due to recent posts. After talking to colleagues who stayed there, I am glad I did. The hotel room was basic and not as much quality that Embassy Suites is known for, but the Quality In was very clean, breakfast was very good, and the hotel layout was easy. It was $20 a night cheaper. Very good stay.

“Not what it seems”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

My daughter and I stayed at the property January 25th so we could visit some colleges in the area. I booked the hotel online and payed $85 with taxes for the advanced purchase rate. When we checked in I didn't realize all the rooms were accessed from the outside and not through a secure lobby area. Since we were traveling alone I asked the front desk for an inside courtyard room which looked a little safer. I was told since I prepaid for the room at the rate quoted in the reservation that the only rooms I could have were at the end of property facing the street. So we were given a room on the second floor right next the the stairwell at the end. There was no swaying the front desk clerk for another option on the property. Aside from the room being very clean, this was the loudest room I have ever stayed in between the loud street noise of cars and police sirens and the thin walls from other guests above us walking around half the night. It also took a good 5 minutes to get hot water in our room for a shower which I also reported to the front desk. We also did not get breakfast in the morning since the line at 7am was out the front door as people were waiting for their cook to order meal. The breakfast set up is a single line so you into the room so you can't just go grab a piece of fruit or bowl of cereal like at an Embassy Suites for instance. We waited a good 10 minutes but had to leave because we had to be on the road by 7:30. I told the front desk at checkout about our unfortunate stay, but not a single apology or offer to make it better. My best advice if you choose to stay there is to pay the extra amount to have a courtyard or pool view room or pick another hotel in the area. There are many more options that look better and safer.

Room Tip: Spend more money to get a room not facing the street

“Clean, Comfortable Hotel, convenient location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

We stayed here for two nights this week. I found the property to be neat and clean, the property to be well-groomed. The pool and hot tubs looked very inviting. The breakfast was pretty nice...choice of eggs, bacon, hash browns, sausage, pancakes, the usual pastries as well. Though many guests would prefer a buffet style setting, I'm sure the hotel saves a lot on food costs (wasteful guests) by serving the breakfast in this fashion (cooked to order vs. buffet) which helps to keep the rates more reasonable. The room was very comfortable and roomy. There was no door between the living area and bedroom, which was not an issue for our stay, but for those wishing for privacy between the bedroom/living room/sofa bed it could be. The sink is in the bedroom, rather than the bathroom which can be good for some and not for others. There is a huge mirror that runs nearly the full length of the bedroom wall, very interesting. The internet worked perfectly...I was very satisfied. The description of the room on the choice hotels website said it had a balcony, which was slightly misleading for this room, as the only balcony from this room (2 double beds suite) was a non-accessible balcony about a foot wide outside the bedroom window. The view of the pool area was nice and "resort-like". I saw lots of comments about limited parking. There is not a lot of parking in the front of the hotel, however there is a large parking lot in the back, and I found it hard to believe that it would completely fill up, but I suppose it's possible. I liked the location of this hotel, right off the freeway, easy on and off. Though we did hear planes over it is not a problem as John Wayne Airport does not allow big planes to land/take off from 11pm to 7am. I was very happy with our two night stay overall and would not hesitate to recommend the hotel or stay here again.

“Quiet, clean, conveniently located, Incredible bargain for the price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2013

Excellent hotel. Close to Disneyland (11 miles on Freeway), quiet, very clean, well maintained, cook to order hot breakfast is definitely a plus. The check in and check out process was a breeze. Courteous and helpful staff. Plenty of free parking on all four sides of the hotel. Newport beach is close by and costs $1.5 to park for an hour very close to the beach.

The room was large and easily accommodated out party of 4. A large room with two double beds and a separate room with sofa bed. The sink is outside the bathroom, making it convenient for two people to get ready at the same time.

Free WiFi worked flawlessly with excellent speed and coverage.

I will definitely stay at this hotel every time I go to Los Angeles. My new home in LA.

Thank you Quality Suites Staff and Management for making our stay extremely satisfying.

Room Tip: Rooms with pool view over look Jacuzzi and nice clean sitting area with round tables and umbrellas.

“large clean rooms, hot breakfast, great for families”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

Stayed for 8 nights - 2 adults and 3 kids, paid $71.5 a night for a double bed suite (AAA rate). The rooms are spacious, and there is a separate living room area with a sofa-bed, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, work station and a TV. The other room has 2 beds and another TV. There is ample storage space for clothes. The décor is a bit dated but the room is large, clean and maid service was good. Water pressure was good (always a pet peeve of mine). The grounds are beautifully landscaped, with little sitting areas that have wrought iron furniture and bubbling fountains. We had our own balcony, which meant we could open the door to our room and step out into the fresh air. The lobby is beautiful. We used the Jacuzzi and pool, both were well maintained and clean. Used the self laundry facility, also convenient, it is $2 for a wash and $2 for a dry, in industrial size machines, so you get a lot of laundry done for this price. A change machine is located in the laundry room. Wi-Fi was free, simple and fast. Location is great – you are on the 55, which means you are about 4 minutes from the 5 or the 405, so you can get anywhere quickly, the drive to John Wayne airport is 5 minutes.
Some people commented that this was really a motel. I disagree since a motel is a motor hotel where you park your car near the room and is in general horizontal. This hotel is vertical (with 3 stories), it is just that the hallways are outdoors, perfect on the Southern California weather. The rooms face inside the hotel, towards the courtyards, not outside towards the parking (as would be in a motel)
The breakfast is a hot, made to order with eggs (or egg beaters) any way you like, omelets, pancakes, hash browns, sausage, all made fresh before your eyes. Also available are fruit, pastries and cereal, juices and coffee. A breakfast like that would probably cost you close to $40 for a family of 5. The main problem is that when the hotel was full, the line for breakfast was very long (20-30 minute wait). Other days we waited 10-15 minutes. You can still grab a cold breakfast and coffee and not wait in line, which is what we did when the line was too long. In the first days, there was a toaster so that you can toast your own bread, but it was gone later so if you want anything warm you have to stand in line. I see the attractiveness of getting a freshly prepared breakfast (especially at this rate), but I would have preferred a buffet style, with less of a wait time. I know they have been doing this breakfast for a long time (stayed there 16 years ago and it was same) so I guess they will not change that.
Still, a great value, large and clean rooms, convenient location, free hot breakfast. Would definitely recommend for families.
