“THE MANAGEMENT SUCKS, VERY RUDE MANAGER AND STAFF”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2012

I like the room size. The manager is rude and so Raul, the owner ought to consider replacing the management. Guest get charaged $10. THE GOOD THING IS FREE INTERNET.

Room Tip: the 8th floor is the nicest.

As for all the bad reviews, the owner of the hotel has changed and boy has it changed! No longer is the building out front abandoned. It is in constant use. The only bad part about it is there are alot of quinceneras that like to play LOUD music. But only until midnight and even then its not usually all that bad.

The parking lot is clean with no abandoned vehicles in the lot. There is a security guard that secures the lot at night. And there are always at least two people at the front desks. The cops to drive around the parking lot and the neighborhood frequently. There are a few "crack-heads" (in action and/or manner) but they don't really bother anyone and they stay out of the way and keep to themselves.

The elevator has been fixed and recertified. Through there is only currently one elevator working, it is the main one in the lobby. The lobby, elevator, halls and rooms are clean. The building does need some renovations inside but they've been doing that slowly. The pool is not open due to it not meeting California safety requirements anymore.

You get a magnetic key to the room. The hot water works. The toilets flush. The cable works fine. Wireless internet is available but the best reception is on the first floor near the front desk. They have free coffee available in the morning in the lobby and various methods to cook/heat food there too. The fan in the bathroom in the hotel room did not work, nor did the AC. But with the wonderful open windows and wide balcony door, its not that bad during the day in the summer. Furniture is in good repair and the carpet appears fairly new. They do have a new policy that no one is allowed in anyone's room without first checking in with the front desk and paying a $10 fee. This is implemented to keep out drug addicts and other bad folks. The manager was cool though with me having family visit without paying the fee.

Most of the people who live there are in some TANF program or another similar program and are getting assisted housing to live there until other place can be found for them. So there were several families there. You can still see some last remants of when the hotel was popular and happening back in the 30's and 40's but it's not creepy or disgusting. Its not in the best neighborhood but for $30-40 a night for a clean, safe place to sleep? Yeah, it's a decent place.

We just stayed at this hotel December 25, 2009-December 26, 2009

First off, we did know that 2 nights for $50.00 wasn't going to get us a luxurious place to stay. (It was $50.00 per night but we had a $50.00 coupon for Expedia)

At first glances it wasn't so bad. When we checked in they didn't even know what type of room we had requested. So we had to tell them..so far, no biggies. Then we got our first indication of a dump upon entering the elevator.

When the doors to the elevator closed, they took forever and didn't shut completely. Their permit for the last inspection was dated SEPTEMBER 2008!! There was food smashed and cigarette butts all over the elevator floors.

We got to our room on the 10th floor. It took us 5 minutes to get in because the door knob must've been installed weird. So instead of lifting the handle, you had to push it down. The room was dark, and colder than it was outside! The thermostat was just for show..it didn't work. There were 2 space heaters in the room so we figured we'd be okay after we were done unpacking the car. When we went back down to the car to get the remainder of our stuff, only to meet a crackhead in the elevator. No joke, he was a crackhead.

We hurried to get our stuff upstairs. We saw nobody else go up to our floor till the last day, and that was the maid. This maid spoke nothing but spanish to me when clearly I am American. She pushed us to hurry and checkout. She apparently lives on the 10th floor with her small daughter who "cleans" the rooms with her. AWFUL!

Okay, so the space heaters didn't end up working (they didn't even turn on) so we called the front desk. She said if we came back down we could have the one she was using in the lobby.

That heater did work, however, it wasn't enough to keep us both warm. So I had my fiance use it because he was already sick when we arrived. We really wished we could've gone to another hotel, we just didn't have the money and it was Christmas night.

The sheets had cigarette burns in them. The shower wasn't too bad. The toilet seat was all stained yellow and stuff so I refused to use it at all.

We were so tired at that point cuz we had traveled all day from out of state that we just fell asleep. The next morning was awful trying to shower in the "icebox" enviornment that the room provided.

That morning when we left for Universal Studios, we were appauled to see all of the stuff we hadn't seen the night before. The parking lot was full of abandoned/vandalized cars. The pool had police caution tape around it. The sign looked like it used to be a Ramada hotel. They also used to have a restaurant there when it was the Ramada. That building was boarded up with bums lurking around it.

I could go into MUCH more detail but the final detail I will leave you with was that I investigated a little further in the lounging area of the 10th floor. There were a few pictures on the walls, and someone had colored out the eyes of the people in them. ***Needless to say, do not spend your money here***

when we arrived to hotel it took us 2 hours to check in.no paper work from hotel .com was sent to the hotel!! so this delayed our check in. We asked for 1st floor and we asked for a 1bed and was given 2 beds, asked for 1st floor and they put us on the 9th floor, my wife is handicapped.
The air conditioner did not work, the toilet did not flush, the beddings were dirty and the pillows were like sheets of paper!! the phones did not work it was static and the tv does not work it is analog!!!
motel 6 gives you more amenities than this hotel. What a shame!
Do not stay here unless your desperate and I mean desperate I would not even recommend a homeless person to this place.
nothing positive.

I read all the reviews and figured that everyone was probably overeacting. Or really picky....but it really is as bad as everyone says it is. For starters it was better suited for a haunted house than a hotel. No doubt one of the creepiest places I have ever been to in my life. The elevator was squeaking and went by really slowly....pretty eerie. If your willing to pay a little more find something a little less run down and haunted.

I wanted to stay here to save a few bucks and I truly wanted to see if the hotel was as bad as ALL of the reviews say it is.... and it was. I do not believe in ghost but it was very creepy at the Santa Ana Plaza. If I didn't know better, I would think this place was built in 1920's. Good luck to anyone staying there tonight!!

Hopefully, this hotel will not be around much longer. The faucet on the sink barely worked, the shower was too hot, and the desk attendant was asleep when I checked out at 5:15am. You can tell it was once a nice place, but it has been poorly kept.
