Overall, the stay was good. The beds were comfortable and the staff kept the room in decent shape. The cigarette smell was upsetting, but the purchase of a solid air freshener made it bearable. The continental breakfast consisted of made to order waffles, oatmeal, fresh fruit, boiled eggs bagels, bread, assorted yogurt, cold cereal and donuts. Reg and decaf coffee, 2%milk, and a selection of tea was available as well as apple and orange juice and various breakfast condiments.
The mini-fridge was of the larger variety and the microwave was a smaller 700 watt model. Perfect for popcorn and reheating food.
Bathroom was clean but more hooks or bars should've been provided to hang up wet towels. The only place to put them was over the shower bar where you quickly ran out of space. The hair dryer cut out after 3 minutes of use and the sink stopper didn't fully close allowing the sink water to run out.
A iron and ironing board was provided, but it would've been helpful if an additional pull out or nested table and at least another chair was available for use. There was only enough eating space for one as the desk area was shared with the 32" TV and the appliance/club bar sat higher than the one chair provided.
Nice looking flat screen TV but the reception kept cutting out and the in-room wireless was extremely unreliable. A couple of computer with attached printers were provided for use in the lobby, but they were plagued by the same spotty WIFI service. At one point, the computers were down for almost a whole day. I wanted to print out boarding passes and travel info but was unable to do so because of this. The WIFI / TV service is the one area that needs serious attention! At this point, they shouldn't even advertise as having the service.
Distance wise, the property is located approximately 11 miles from Disneyland and 14 miles from Knott's Berry farm. LAX was 55 mins away w/o traffic. With traffic (most of the time in LA), set aside about 75-90 mins. A Wal-Mart Superstore, Target and various other stores, banks and restaurants are within a couple of miles of the property. John Wayne Airport is very close by and they offer a shuttle service to/from it.
They had a nice pool and separate outdoor hot tub area, but the pool was located in the middle of the property (courtyard style), and was constantly in the shadows rendering the pool water cold as ice. The hot tub was fine and that is what most of the guests tended to use.
There was ample parking, but some of the spaces were fairly close together (either that or there were some pretty poor parkers staying there).
This is one of the few affordable properties in the area that allows pets, so if you travel with one, I recommend staying there. The staff did a great job separating the guests with pets away from those who didn't resulting in peace and quiet for the non-pet guests.
Overall this is an older-property that is well maintained with a few chinks in the armor. It is equivalent to a high 2-star property. Once the descrepancies mentioned above are addressed, it could move into the 3 star range. It is priced right for the value-conscious, and clean enough to satisfy the needs of most people. I'd stay again given the cost to value range, but if you're willing to spend more, there are nicer properties in the area.
