Warm reception, great location, enthusiastic help,very clean, not overpriced. We whloeheartedly recommend.

This past May we stayed for 2 nights at the BW Cavalier Ocean Front Resort in San Simeon. This small stop-over/town is basically a grouping of hotel/motels for the express purpose of seeing the Hearst Castle. If you blink twice, you can miss it. Although it’s a beautiful area there’s not much to do but take in the scenery and sleep. On the other hand the public pier and beach seems to be very popular with the locals. The hotel itself located directly on the beach is a motel style layout with very clean and good-sized room, in addition to a decent restaurant attached (breakfast not included). Being that the nights were on the cool side, the hotel sets up three bonfires where guests can gather around. A nice gesture. The beach itself is nothing special covered with stones and dark sand. On a personal note at checkout time we had a small issue regarding our bill, which was amiably settled i.e. good customer service. The Cavalier Resort has a pool facing the ocean. A bonus is the coin-operated washer/dryer for use by the guests. All rooms come equipped with a data port.

We enjoyed this hotel quite a bit. We opted for the lesser expensive room that was supposedly NOT ocean view. However, contrary to another viewers opinion, all of the rooms that overlook the parking lot also have a pretty decent ocean view as well. If you sit at your table and chairs by the window it's quite lovely, with a beautiful breeze. Next time we would spring for the ocean view having seen how nice they are, but these rooms were very decent.

DVD player in the room was a nice bonus, but it was not operating properly which was a disappointment for our little one when we all settled in at night to see a movie. Loved the fire pits on the bluff. We opted to skip the night time fire routine and instead my husband got a fire going from the previous nights embers and lots of available driftwood on the beach, in the morning. We ate breakfast overlooking the ocean with a warm fire and a cool breeze.

Nice, reasonably priced restaurant too! Front office staff could have been a bit nicer. The pool was fine with comfortable loungers, but a few degrees too cool.

We stayed at the Cavalier for 2 days at the end of June. We had a beatiful view of the ocean and the sunset from this hotel. At night during sunset, they provided fireside seating for the guests (bring a jacket - it gets cold w/ the ocean breeze). The pools were small, but nice. The one with the jacuzzi was much warmer than the other one. The room was standard, but nice and clean. If you're looking for a good place to eat, go to the Sow's Ear in Cambria. We had a wonderful dinner there - they found a table for us 30 minutes from closing with a full restaurant. The food was great and they took/gave us a polaroid of ourselves as a bonus.
