“A wonderful place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2009

We chose this place based on Trip Advisor reviews on our Pacific Coast road trip. We stopped here with a visit to Hearst Castle planned for the next day. We loved this place. Had a beach front room with patio. The fireplace, binnoculars for watching the sea life, the ocean side bonfires were all special touches. Our room was large and very clean. The restaurant was nothing fancy but great food and drinks and prices. The staff was most helpful and accomodated our request for a 2nd night stay because we loved this place so much. They had information about the tides for us "midwesterners" and good advice about other spots to eat and visit. On our 2nd day we picked up picnic lunches at the restaurant, walked the beach and enjoyed the gorgeous landscape. This is a must stay place on a Pacific road trip.

We stayed here for one night with a group of 15 people travelling together on a Pacific Coast Road trip. Based on our research, including feedback from Trip Advisor, we had arranged for a group booking for 8 rooms well in advance of our stay. Upon our arrival, all of the reservations were in order, and check in was efficient and quick, even though we all arrived at the same time. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
The rooms were very clean and spacious, and the hotel overall was very clean and well maintained. We had an oceanfront room with a beautiful view at sunset. The fireplace was a nice touch! The breakfast service at the adjoining restaurant was very good.
Everyone in our group was very pleased with our stay here, and we would definitely stay here again.

We were on our way back home from San Francisco, when we saw how beauitful San Simeon was, and came across Best Western Cavalier. We decided to stop to see if any rooms were open, and let me say it was a friday afternoon and we had a dog. To our suprise, they did and were dog friendly. We ended up extending our vacation for a few more days and enjoying the beach fires, w/marshmellows, and sunsets. What a topper on our vacation.

I was looking for a local weekend getaway and chose this hotel after seeing the top ratings on Trip Advisor. I have to say, I think it really lives up to the expectations. Checked in late Friday night, (the staff from booking to check in was very nice) lit the small fireplace and had a wonderful night's sleep listening to the continuous crash of the ocean. It takes a litle getting used to at first but it really is peaceful after a while. The bed was very comfortable, with a soft comforter, and the bathroom was decent-sized with a soaking tub. The balcony was a good size with comfortable chairs to enjoy the view. It does cost a bit more to stay here, but for a short stay it was definitely worth it!

My family and I stayed here one night. Compared to rates of other rooms around town it was very highly priced. However, the rooms were decent sized, beds comfortable. No vent in the bathroom only a window which is horrible when taking a shower. NO airconditioning, only portable fans were available at the desk and we fortunately got the last of them! The best part of the hotel was it's back yard overlooking the Pacific. They have fire pits set up out there which they light everynight. There's also an wood staircase leading down to the beach where I took a lovely morning stroll. Cavaliers is their adjoining restaurant which had a decent selection, but the food was nothing extraordinary. Complimentary computer and internet use in the lobby was very slow too.

Stayed overnight on a visit to Hearst Castle. Great location right on the beach although too cold to go swimming. Fire pits close to the beach were lit up at night so it was really nice to sit outside and listen to the waves. Wish we brought some marshmellows with us. Room itself was a little old and musty but otherwise ok. Service was great. Very friendly staff.

While traveling up the California coast, one of our stops was the Hearst Castle at San Simeon. We stayed one night at this Best Western since it was so close to this attraction. We were very happy. The restaurant next door was pricey but the food was excellent. The hotel staff was incredibly accommodating. They described the three fire pits that overlook the ocean and are set each night at nightfall and burn until around 10. The kids wanted to make Smores and the staff told us where we could purchase graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallows and then they had skewers that we could use. It was great. The beach was fun to walk on, but there was a lot of weird seaweed with thousands of flies around it. They didn't bite. The kids stayed in the main room with a full sized bed for both and my husband and I stayed in the smaller private room. The beds were ok. Not the most comfortable but fine. The shower and toilet were separate from the sink, which made the morning routine faster.
