This hotel is consistently good. We have been coming to this hotel for approx. 10 years for a couples get-away. On the southern boundary of Big Sur, near Hearst Castle, it's a great location for exploring the Central Coast of California.
There are 3 types of rooms: motel style (by front desk and resturant), larger rooms with fireplace/lg balconies facing ocean(Kings Row), super large suites on bluff overlooking ocean.
we stay in Kings Row because its larger and nicer then the motel rooms (which are very nice also, but smaller). The rooms are clean, updated and quiet (kinda).
The location is really nice. Ocean just outside the balcony. This hotel has 3 fireplaces on ocean-bluff that are lit each evening around sunset causing guests to come out (with gloves, jackets and headgear if needed) with drinks.
The restuarant is -ok-. The food is not anything to write home about, but is super convienent. We normally go into nearby Cambria for meals. Just a short 5 min. drive. But a spectacular drive!
The bathrooms could be updated. Add better heating, better flooring, etc.
Restuarant: work on the menu and food. I had sliced turkey dinner. it was very disappointing: turkey was sandwich type (!!!), i was expecting thick dinner slices. Hotel staff: please work on this if you are reading.
Add a nice bar/pub. with the location it would be unbeatable.
Like the hotel and plan to return soon.
