We stayed there for one night. and that is all I would want to stay there. The room was clean and it did have an ocean view. I don't like it when hotels do not use the correct size of sheet and then you have to wrestle with the bottom sheet all night to keep it on. That is exactly what I had to do. I also woke up at 3 am and the room was cold. When we tried to turn the heat on it wouldn't work. The hotel does not have someone on duty all night so we could do nothing but be cold as we wrestled with the bottom sheet. Upon checking out I mentioned this to the hotel employee and he said that it was supposed to have been checked the week before. All I know is that I was cold. The shower head in the bath was so low and I guess we should be thankful because originally it was about 12" lower. The best thing that I could say is that it served the purpose. The restaurant that is connected to the hotel is good but pricey.

I booked my reservation with the lodge's website, and received a confirmation within minutes.

This motel was truly lovely - I had an ocean view room that definitely had a full window of ocean view. Nice, large, clean room with a king size bed, large closet, fridge, microwave and coffee maker. The bathroom had plenty of towels and nice product too - none of that no-name horrid soap bar. I could have used some body lotion, but hey, not a big deal.

Helpful, friendly staff - ask them for whatever you need and they will take care of it immediately and happily.

San Simeon is in the middle of pretty much nowhere, so there were only a few cable channels on t.v. I also could not get a cell signal, nor could I get on the internet. So if you're looking for connectivity, this is not the place for you.

The lodge is right across the street from the ocean, and I was able to take a nice long bikeride on the coast without fear of being run over. Not much in the way of restaurants in San Simeon itself, but if you drive 6 more miles down the road, Cambria has a ton of different dining and shopping option - all on the quaint and touristy side, but believe me, it's more than San Simeon has.

All in all, a great place at a great price and less than 2 miles from Hearst Castle, San Simeon pier and the elephant seal rookery at Pundias Blancas.

  • Liked — Affordable, spotless and lovely ocean view.
  • Disliked — No internet and no cell signals!

Don't know how they take the pictures to look so good, the place was a mess, landscaping was being ripped out, rooms were older, with musty to moldy smell. The walls are thin, noise travels well, tour busses fill rooms, and depart early, starting bathroom activity earlier. If this is a 2 star I don't know how. Save your money, go across the road or down the road to Cambria.

Choose this one as it was one of the only low cost accommadation choices we could find. Would not stay here again, but in saying that would struggle to have paid the difference in cost with another place. Dirty, unhelpful staff and basic breakfast was provided but not before 7 am!

Definately recommend the experience tour of Hearst Castle while you are in San Simeon.
