“close to Hearst Castle”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2013

Location was great, only 8km to Hearst Castle. Room was big and had a fridge, microwave and coffee maker, it was clean and quiet. Opposite the ocean and the pier. However, there was no breakfast but nearby were lots of little eating places and a small supermarket. In all, very convenient but a bit overpriced. I would stay in Cambria which is only few km away and just as convenient for Hearst Castle.

We stayed here over the holiday weekend in November. The location is very nice, and you could walk to all of the other San Simeon hotels/motels, and all of the restaurants in this little town. The biggest draw here was of course, the price. Knowing the place/ratings prior to checking in would better prepare one's expectation. Positives: affordable, very clean room, pool and jacuzzi was decent (heated and indoor), good location, free parking, no charge for kids, refrigerator, and microwave in room. Negatives: very thin walls and ceiling, bed is rather soft, room is dated. If possible, request a room on the second floor as I had a hard time sleeping with the people on top kept walking around and around at four in the morning! The guy at the counter was nice and quick when I phoned him that the heater was not working, he came and fixed it within 15 minutes, kudos to him! Overall, I would say that we got we paid for, which was an affordable 2 star motel with 2 star amenities.

Room Tip: Definitely stay on the second floor.

We're frugal seniors, staying 1 night... All Hearst Castle hotels are in one area, within walking distance from one-another. They all appear to be 2-star, but ours was basic, but clean, and the staff was friendly. The nearest town with what appears to be 3-star or better is Cambria, perhaps 5 miles south. There's a good restaurant attached to the next south motel, but be sure to take in breakfast or lunch at the San Simeon Beach Bar & Grill in Old San Simeon, 1 mile north off of Hwy. 1.

We didn't want to spring for Moonstone Beach Cambria prices, and this San Simeon location is only 5 minutes away from Cambria by car. The room is basic, but clean, acceptable, very quiet, free wifi, and cheap! What more can you ask for?

Room Tip: Choose a room at the far back, away from the highway.

We stayed in this motel for one night while traveling highway 1 in September 2013. The room was clean and comfortable and there did not appear to be anything before or after while on the road but to be fair we did not explore past highway 1. The motel had a spa but we did not use it.

There was a bar and restaurant almost next door and a small convenience store as well.

We did not eat in the restaurant in the evening but had an very good breakfast the next day. We used the bar during the evening and toasted the sun as it dropped below the horizon which was very magical.

Hearst Castle is close by which was one of the reasons for stopping here and is worth a visit to find how people with too much money can spend it.

When passin through San Simeon, most places were full so this was more of a last resort place, bit above the shower was in need of a clean and the room had a funny smell, the room was quite cheap however for what the place was like, I'd stayed in nicer places for the same price, also breakfast was not included which could have been for better value.

as part of our road trip we hadn't booked the last couple of nights accommodation. I knew we was going to be staying in this town so when we arrived we just called into a few hotels/motels to see who was the cheapest rate. at 8pm this was the cheapest so decided to stay. we was allocated a disable room which was right next to the spa pool. room was quite big and looked clean. the bathroom was a wet room and really clean aswell. we got changed and got straight into the Jacuzzi which was great after the long day on the road we had. didn't get in the pool as it felt too cold after being really hot in the Jacuzzi. we didn't eat around here at night but the guy who checked us in on reception had give us some discount cards for local businesses. we did travel into cambria just down the road for fuel.
