We love to stop off at Ragged Point whenever we're heading up the central coast of California. It's located about 30 minutes north of Hearst Castle, San Simeon.
This was our first time for lunch at the restaurant there. We usually just grab a bite at the sandwich shop next door, but the service is poor there and the prices high for the quality of the food.
The restaurant is lovely. It has a great view of the ocean from many of the tables and the atmosphere is light and bright and friendly. However, we felt that the prices were rather high. A cheeseburger with fries is $13, add bacon for $2 more. They offer several seafood entrees and sandwiches and variety of salads and soups. We opted for ordering bowls of clam chowder (served with two packages of crackers), which was filling but otherwise unremarkable.
The Inn's menus can be viewed on their website (www.raggedpointinn.net). They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Warning: They charge $5 to split a plate and there are no separate checks allowed. They are well aware of the dining monopoly they enjoy at the point and, it seems, are more than ready to take advantage of that fact.
Even if you don't eat at Ragged Point, stop and take the short walk out to the point. You will enjoy the amazing view of the ragged California coast!
