“Awesome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2014

Four miles north of the Hearst Castle entrance on Highway 1 is where a huge population of elephant seals live their lives for all to see. There is a boardwalk from which you can observe the seals and docents happily answer questions about all aspects of the elephant seals lives. There are also hiking trails to the north that lead to a lighthouse and small beaches where you can see more seals; sometimes in close proximity if you are not careful. This is a not to be missed experience. There are no amenities at this site. The time spent is up to you but a couple hours fly by quickly.

“Unexpected Treat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2014

Didn't know we would be here while the Elephant Seal pups were getting ready to launch! One of the few spots in the world where you can get this close to observe these amazing animals. There was a naturalist on site who was very helpful as she explained the life cycles of these sea mammals. Females were already gone, but oodles of babies and a few large males. Definitely worth a stop if one is interested in marine life. Ample parking, a boardwalk, and wheelchair accessible if the occupant doesn't might a bit of four-wheeling over the dirt.

“A Neat Treat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2014

Fortunately we were there at the right season. There were dozens and dozens of these elephant seals just yards away. No special seating or amenities, as the habitat is kept natural. But these were a lot of fun to watch and study.

“A sight to see!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2014

You can't miss this place right off of Highway 1. You'll always see a crowd. People touring California from all over the world stop here to see these magnificent (ugly) creatures do their thing. It is definitely a sight to see, why not stop and check it out?

“One of the highlights of our trip!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2014

The Elephant seals were awesome! There were literally thousands of them, as far as the eye could see, lounging on the beach, napping, playing, swimming- what an incredible sight! We spent a long time just watching their crazy antics and the sounds coming from them is enough to make anyone giggle ;) Just writing this review is putting a big smile on my face! We've never seen anything like it! Nature at it's best! A definite must see along the California coast. We went the first day, mid afternoon and it was quite crowded, but the next morning we were out around sunrise and it was just us and the amazing Elephant seals!! Incredible!!
