“Hearst Castle”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

The gardens were very picturesque and enjoyed taking photos of the grounds.

Found the castle to be too ostentatious.

“Must see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

Hearst Castle is a "must see" if you're traveling the central coast of California. Be prepared to spend about three hours because there's so much to see. After the scheduled tour take your time roaming around the estate. The photo opportunities are beautiful. From the visitor center you take a bus ride over a curving road up to the castle. Once there you take a number of steps up for your first view of this American castle. For a tour of another American castle visit Asheville, NC to see the Biltmore House.

“BEAUTIFUL PLACE, BUT AVOID THE FOOD AT THE CAFETERIA”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

This is a must-see for anyone traveling on this stretch of road. The castle itself is so beautiful and amazing, just a wonder of architecture and it took 28 years to build! I would highly recommend it. I do, however, wish to warn people of the food situation there. Make sure that you eat BEFORE you go to the castle, as they do not let you bring food up to the castle grounds, nor do they allow you to even chew gum on the premises, which I totally understand. What I don't understand is how they can serve incredibly terrible food at their cafe down in the main building where you purchase your tickets. I know that it's run by Aramark, so that explains a lot, but they could do so much better if they just tried harder to make decent food. It's California, land of fresh fruits and vegetables, free range beef, seafood, etc.! Come on. Having said all of that, the castle tour itself is definitely worth the price of admission and I would go back again in a heartbeat, just don't eat at the gift shop cafe.

“Well worth the stop”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

This is a pretty amzing place, most tourist things like this leave me cold, but this was really fun. Everyone who goes to the castle goes on a tour, some people do all three but one was enough, then some exploring around the grounds. A good half day tour on the way through.
