It was a great inn for romance, quiet, relaxation and writing. I am sad it is now closed. Judy and Jim were great owners. The grounds were wonderful, park-like, and a short walk to downtown San Rafael for dinner. Will miss it.

If you are in the Bay Area, have a car and want to hit multiple locations, this beautiful B&B cannot be beat. We were in a room on upper floor with paned windows and wonderful light. Breakfasts are excellent, owners seem pleasant and the house and grounds are beautiful. Easy access by car to SF, Marin County and the East Bay. Be sure to take a trip up Mt Tamalpais for stunning views and great hikes.

We stayed here three years ago and had a wonderful experience. When the time came for a return trip to California, there was no doubt that we wanted to stay here again. We could not ask for a better host (and breakfast chef) than Jim Dowling. He provides a lovely setting, well placed as a jumping off point for hiking in Muir Woods, visiting Mt. Tam, or just walking up the hills beyond the Inn. Very convenient to the wine country in one direction and San Francisco in the other. The Inn itself is beautifully decorated, with works of art from the Far East. Everyone at the Inn was warm and friendly and helpful. We felt right at home the minute we arrived. Our room had that 19th century elegance that was the equal to the best Victorian setting.

Room Tip: We stayed again in the Oak Suite, delightful.

Totally enjoyed our two night stay at Gerstle Park Inn. It is apparent when entering this B&B that this has been a labor of love for the owners/innkeepers. The decor is lovely, and has been thoughtfully furnished. Breakfast is elegantly served and a delight. The interesting history of the estate is well documented in a book. Our room was comfortable and gave us room to relax. We picnicked on the grounds. The innkeepers are helpful. I could go on to the excellence of this B&B.

Very quiet location. Our room was on the second floor, the San Rafael Suite. Tall people may have a problem with parts of the room due to low ceiling angles. We had a small private balcony - just right for two people. The room was a bit over-furnished, but that seems to be typical of B&Bs. Wine, Sherry in the room, and cookies are a nice touch. The breakfast was good. Our room was away from the parking lot which meant less noise.

Room Tip: San Rafael Suite is on the second floor facing north east (I believe) with some low angles. We enjoy...

We chose this B&B as our home base during a 5 day trip to wine country and it was ideal! Just 20" N of the SFO airport and within short drives of Sonoma, Healdsburg , and redwood parks. Grounds parklike, house decor Oriental/classic, not too "antiguey". Stayed in San Rafael Rm which is lovely, private porch amid the trees, roomy & bright. Loved the breakfast rm with separate tables so you could have your privacy too. Jim & Judy perfect hosts, friendly and helpful, awesome breakfasts with menu made to order. Wine & port in living rm, sherry in the room! Trails to hike right up the street. Perfect for visiting wine country and so much nicer than staying in Sonoma itself, less expensive also. Loved the town, highly recommend Vin Antica and Il Davide for dinner. We did not go into San Francisco but it would be ideal for this too, just over Golden Gate. Do not stay anywhere else or you will miss this gem!

Room Tip: Upstairs was peaceful and scenic with the private porch. San Rafael rm perfect.

I spent two nights in the finest B $ B I have ever experienced. The quality of accommodation to rival 5 Star hotels. Host owners to rival the most accommodation hoteliers. Breakfast made too order. Wine chilled in the afternoon, Port on the sideserver. Sherry in the room. Decor and antiques superb. Setting is magnificent. Redwoods. Oaks. Greenery. I'd give it 10 stars if I could.

Room Tip: Try an unconnected suite on the grounds.
