We booked this room so that we could fly out early in the morning, and it was a free stay because I used my Choice Hotel points. I was pleasantly surprised to get a king bed room for the same number of points as a queen. They put us on the top floor, in a really nice room away from freeway noise. It’s more common that hotels will try to pass off the cheaper rooms as freebies. This isn’t a 5 star hotel (nor does it pretend to be), but it’s a clean, comfy, and surprisingly quiet place to stay before flying.
The room itself had a comfortable mattress, sheets, and pillows, and everything was very clean but didn’t smell like cleansers. Wireless was very fast, which helped me get some work done quickly. The AC worked fine, and I had a good night’s sleep before taking off early the next day, which is not easy for me to do. Like other Comfort Inns, the toilet and shower are in the bath, and the sink is in the hallway. This makes it easier for my husband and I to get ready quickly.
I would have given it 5 stars, but the breakfast was terribly inadequate and staff was slow and unorganized. Breakfast started at 6:30, and any motel near an airport needs to expect a lot of early birds trying to catch morning flights, especially on Saturday. We arrived just after a crowd of Japanese tourists who had eaten all the food except a few slices of bread, used all the hot water, and messed up the waffle iron so it needed cleaning. When I reported this to the desk clerk, she said she’d have someone take care of it. 10 minutes later the world’s slowest person finally brought out some eggs and sausage (slowly), and refilled the hot water (slowly) and restocked the bread. She was still cleaning the waffle iron ½ hour after that when I left for the airport. I’ve stayed at many places that provide these sorts of breakfasts and never have I encountered such poor breakfast service. The Comfort Inn in South San Fran (also near airport) is much more prepared and helpful in this respect, and never comes close to running out of food.
I must add, however, that night staff was pleasant and helpful, and seemed to enjoy their jobs and customers.
Room Tip: ask for an upper floor that faces away from the freeway
