“Outstanding quality and surprising value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2011

The entrance to this establishment is certainly NOT very impressive, however, once inside the ambiance changes immediately. We went midweek (July 4) and found the place to be almost completely empty. Do NOT be dissuaded by the rather "pedestrian" entrance (no pun intended, you'll understand this should you decide to go here).

Our waiter was very competent and following our request, made suggestions. There is a prix fixe dinner menu ($30) which is available ONLY for groups numbering FOUR or LESS. We determined this prix fixe menu to be their best value! However, owing to the uncrowded condition, our party of six could partake the prix fixe menu. There is a selection of five appetizers which should appeal to almost anyone's taste or palate. There were five entree choices - two steak, one fish, one chicken and one pasta. For dessert, there were three choices. We chose a local wine ($55) on the wine menu, which was found to be amply sized with many choices and a wide price selection as well. Wine is also offered by the glass.

Our waiter described the various food choices very well. His descriptions were found to be accurate in terms of portion size and manner in which the food was prepared. One person ordered New York Strip steak and it was prepared a little underdone. However, less than two minutes back on the grill and it was cooked to perfection.

We found the onion soup gratinee very tasty, a bit sweet but very pleasant. The 12-oz portion of prime rib was outstanding; tender, juicy and rather lean. The 8-oz. filet mignon was very, very tender and was prepared to perfection. For appetizers, there was a beet salad that was lovely, but found to be a little on the smallish size. For dessert, the hit of the night was the bread pudding. We all ordered it, and found it to be very tasty, with an essence of cinnamon and sugar that really melted in our mouths!

A la carte steaks vary in price from $19 on the low end to around $38 on the high end, averaging around $28 for most entrees. Appetizers on the regular menu range in price from $6-$12; side orders range $5-$7; desserts $7-$22 (crepes suzettes flambe for two). We suggest the prix fixe dinner ($30) which we deem to be an excellent value; add a bottle of wine (~$30) and with tip, expect to pay around $45 per person. Our meal ran us just about $48 per person, a bit pricey but not too out of hand.

If there was any downside, it could be the music system and choice of music, which was eclectic jazz mix. Some musical choices might have been a little too lively for our tastes. The speakers seem to be on one side, close to the kitchen, and thus anyone who sits near that location might find themselves a little overwhelmed by the music. While the restaurant was empty, we found the music a little too loud for our taste, but somehow they realized this and lowered the volume. It is not located with any kind of a view. We found the decoration/ambiance inside to be warm and woodsy, with dark tones of brown and burnt umber and accents of gold and tan.

We strongly suggest you give this establishment a try and we think you will not be disappointed. Their website reveals their menu AND menu prices!
