We were asked by our airline to volunteer to give up our seats as the flight was oversubscribed. Due to the delay we'd already incurred, my partner and I decided it would actually be better all round to delay our visit to Baton Rouge for an extra day, otherwise we'd have been getting in at about 2am.

The airline arranged for us to stay at this hotel free of charge, and also threw in $50 of food vouchers to be used either there, or back at the airport.

When we arrived we were checked in quite quickly and the staff were friendly, making sure we were all set to head off early the next morning. They were kind enough to book a taxi for us. We decided to exchange all our food vouchers there, as we thought we might have a nice dinner to take the edge off our sorrows from the hectic day.

It was a good thing we were given so much for food by the airport, as even the basic meals weren't cheap, averaging around $13-$18. The food was a little bland, but the portions were reasonable and overall it wasn't too bad. We weren't given the opportunity to order dessert, meaning we were left with $20 in vouchers and no way to spend it. The waiter assured us we could ask the reception desk for our food vouchers back so that we may use them to get breakfast at the airport, as we were due to set off 2 hours before the hotel's breakfast service. This was not the case. We were told that as they'd already charged this to the airline's account, they would have to call the card issuer and make several other calls before the charges could be refunded, which basically said to me that they were able to do it but just couldn't really be bothered. I understood that there was a bit of hassle involved, but we weren't told in the beginning that they were non-refundable and we would have spent more given the chance. We literally had no way to use them there without missing our flight.

In the end, they agreed to let us pay for the drinks with our vouchers as well as food, so we were able to spend just about all of it. I wasn't happy that I had to complain at all, but I was satisfied with the resolution.

The following morning, our wake up call was received a few minutes early and check out was nice and smooth, enabling us to set off in good time to make our flight.
