“Make a reservation -- Enjoy!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2014

We made a visit to the Huntington Library and Garden for a birthday celebration. The Huntington is a lovely place to visit and the Huntington Tea Room was a great place to start. We had made reservations for 12 noon when the Garden opens. The Tea Room filled up rapidly and we were glad that we had come when we did. The self-serve style allows you to eat at your own pace and enjoy the food and view. We took a leisurely pace and the wait staff did not rush us at all. The food is well presented. The tea, sandwiches and desserts were great.
Note: The guards at the front will not let anyone pass until the garden opens. If your reservation is for 12 noon, you will have to wait until 12 to be let in. The walk to the Tea Room is about 5-7 minutes. The staff at the Tea Room know that you will be arriving a little after 12 for your reservation.

“Superb Buffet, Top Service in Elegant Setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2014

Set on a hill opposite the Rose Garden, the Tea Room delivered a delightful brunch experience. We were served outstanding tea and coffee and scones (scrumptious). The buffet included an assortment of excellent tea mini-sandwiches (carrot/ginger, salmon/cucumber, tuna salad, and more), salads, noodles, olives, and quality mini-pastries. We ate our fill with gusto. Highly recommended as a prelude to touring the gardens.

“Great Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2014

A decent buffet high tea but definitely make reservations early! I expected the quality and variety of food to be better but I didn't leave unsatisfied. They even packed up the extra scones for us to take away.

“Always A Treat!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2014

We are regulars here. Less formal than High Tea in England but just as delicious! My favorites are the finger sandwiches that include the carrot-ginger cream cheese on raisin bread and the salmon with dill and a generous topping of caviar!

“Unconventional but nice tea room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2014

Just went for tea on the "free day" in March...first time in about 4 years. We only do this on the "free" days because it cuts the cost (tea is $29 without the entrance fee). It is pricey but we usually make a meal out of it. The atmosphere in the entry room is better than the back room...it is more airy and light. Be advised that they do serve wine and some very good ones. Tea is just the usual ones with some specialty items. This day most of the sandwiches were very good. People have noted that there isn't much in the ratio of filling to bread but when the filling and the bread are both good, it really doesn't matter. Our favorite sandwich is the smoked salmon with dill cream cheese on marbled rye bread. If your taste is for caviar, you can even find that here. Desserts are a little sparse but after you have filled up on sandwiches, fruit, cheese/crackers, salads and scones, you don't really need much. We like the fact that you can go back to the buffet and get more of the items you like as opposed to the usual tea service where you can't pick and choose. They also have a variety of salads...the soba noodle salad is delicious! I was disappointed with the scones...they used to serve larger orange scones that tasted like scones. This day they served tiny balls of chocolate chip and peanut butter...not our favorites. You must make reservations. And, if you plan to go on a "free day," you have to give a credit card that will be charged if you don't show up.
