“Heavenly sauce”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2012 via mobile

Big fan of Phil's -tasty smoked meat and sauce is fantastic. I love the Chickless dinner and the Brougham sandwich. Favorite side is the baked potato - most restaraunt baked potatoes are underwhelming, but these have great texture and flavor. Quality ingredients and careful preparation - Phil's pays attention to the basics, with consistently satisfying results. Staff at the San Marcos location are helpful and attentive - every bit as good as the Sports Arena location.

“San Diego BBQ = Phil's”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

While I agree that the original Phil's on SA Blvd is the best, this one is great for those who live in the NC area. Interesting that there is an In N Out and Chickfila next door, so lots of good food to choose from in the same mall, in San Marcos (lucky). Had the usual dinner, with onion rings, good as usual like everyone says. I probably would like to try the competition if given the chance, but wouldn't go out of my way to do so.

While I don't think I would drive to SD just to eat, I would eat at Phils quite frequently if I lived in SD, and I've made it a tradition to eat here every second trip in town.

“Best BBQ in San Diego”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2012

Have been to Phil's BBQ many times and have always had great food and service. The babyback ribs are great and the El Toro (tri-tip)) and Broham (pulled pork) sandwiches are really good. My wife always gets the BBQ chicken dinner and she enjoys that as well. The onion rings are extra, but worth it. Biggest rings I've seen, crunchy and tasty. Phil never disappoints, except
when there is a line out the door.

“Great service, great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2012

Loved this BBQ find in CA. The hostess helped us figure out what/how to order for my 3 young kids to eat. Chicken, dry... meaning no seasoning when cooked and no sauce afterward.

Sides were tasty, restaurant was clean, and bathrooms were in excellent condition.

“Different but Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

I love BBQ and have had some of the best around the country. Phil's is good for sure, with a touch of spice. I personally liked it a lot, but the kids were not a fan of the sauce due to it's kick. Plus the options for kids is not very good.
