Just returned from a trip my mother and I took to San Luis Obispo. We stayed for two nights based on the previous good reviews. We had a room with two queen beds. We had a quick check in, dropped off our bags in the room and headed out. When we returned around 10pm, my mother turned the bedspread and top sheet down and noticed the bottom sheet was wet and had a large round stain on it (like a pee stain). I immediately called the front desk, explained the problem and asked that the sheets be completely changed. I was told someone would be over to take a look. We waited for 15 minutes then I called again. I was told there were two maintenance calls ahead of us. The desk clerk asked me how I think it got wet. I told him we believe someone before us or even their pet made the stain and they just didn't change the sheets or someone made up the bed to look like it wasn't slept in or a pet laid on the bedspread and wet the bed but it wasn't actually "slept in" so the maid did not change the bed sheets. I told the clerk that I wondered about the other bed and thought it best to change the sheets on it too.
When the manager arrived he explained away the problem saying the linen service had not entirely dried the sheet and that he knew of only one other time in many years this had happened. He turned the mattress over to check if it was wet completely though (it wasn’t) but in doing so, we noticed the other side had two stains from previous times. He quickly changed all the sheets on both queen beds as we requested.
If the fault lies with the linen service co., why didn’t they notice the sheet was wet or see the large stain when they were folding the sheet? Also, why didn’t the maid notice the wet and stained sheet when unfolding it to make up the bed, unless of course, someone made up the bed to look like no one slept in it, which means the maid did not touch that bed at all. I don't know whether is customary or not to remake a bed that hasn't been slept in.
Other than that, everything else was decent and the room was reasonably clean. The free continental breakfast was okay--coffee, juice, muffins (chocolate muffins were hard), danish and apples. My mother did say the coffee was very good.
It is in a good location, next to Denny’s, a gas station, shopping plaza and easy on and off access to the 101. I will probably stay elsewhere on the next trip to SLO.
