“Great Deal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2010

This hotel was a great deal. The staff behind the front desk were extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great....except there was no water. Room was clean. We used the hot tub and it was nice too. Overall this place was a great deal for what we paid - $62.

We reviewed this hotel on google already, but we so impressed with the Sands we wanted to put our good review on Tripadvisor as well:
The staff is very friendly and helpful. The room was very, VERY clean and well-appointed. The beds are VERY comfortable. Yes, the decor looks like extravagant late 80's, early 90's, but it matches and is well-maintained. We were traveling with our two little dogs, and we have stayed at some "pet-friendly" places that were very unfriendly price-wise and lacking in cleanliness. Did I mention that the room at the Sands was incredibly clean??!! The pool/spa area was also well-maintained and invitingly landscaped. The price absolutely cannot be beat. We had stayed the previous night at the Traveler's Lodge in Paso Robles for TWICE the price and it did not have the amenities the Sands did and it hadn't been updated since the 1950's (including the plumbing - YIKES!). Talk about threadbare for a whopping price! We were so thrilled to find the Sands and won't hesitate to go back on our next visit to SLO. What a gem!

I wanted to go to SLO for my b day, but since we were on a budget, I decided on the Sands Inn over the Quality Inn and suites. We stayed 2 nights in a deluxe room, paying around $79 per night. The guy at the front desk during the night shift was really cool and kind. We got free dvds and the hotel room was really clean actually. We were provided with lots of pillows and blankets. The only thing I did not like was the bed, It wasn't really comfortable kind of hard, but my husband did not have any problem, so I guess it depends on what you like. Oh, they also have a pool with warm water, too bad it was raining the whole time we were there and could not use it. I would stay here next time I go to SLO, its a good value and we like to be out most of the time anyway.

The front desk is rood!! The rooms are disgusting & the pull out sofa bed is very uncomfortable. The springs in the mattress is all you feel poking your body. The worst night sleep ever!!!!! The carpet looks disgusting. Save yourself the headache & spend a few more dollars to stay somewhere else. I honestly did not want to touch anything in the room including the door knobs. You can hear your neighbors flushing their toilets. NO extra pillows or blankets. What else can I say.

no confirmation email of internet booking, abrupt staff on the telephone. Do not respond to email contact. Have to telephone if you are in the UK. Do not book if you want a warm hospitable welcome. They do not collect from the airport- told to 'get a taxi'

My partner and I loved this motel. We stayed one night during a road trip from LA to San Fran. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean, comfortable and cosy. It's located around 1 mile from downtown. On friday nights a trolley runs from just outside the motel to downtown every 15 minutes for only a quarter. DVD's were available for free from the front desk. Breakfast was great, with fresh waffles. Best thing of all was the price!

Stayed at this hotel after reading the reviews and basically found it to be OK for the $$. Arrived in the mid afternoon and was the only one at the property at the time. The check in clerk was very friendly and also helpful in finding a local store. There was no microwave in the room but a call to the front desk resolved the matter quickly. The room was basic, but clean. The bathroom probably hasn't been remodled for approx. 30 yrs, but was functional. The walls are kind of thin and you could hear the people next door coughing. Also, the a/c-heater was a bit noisey and you could even hear the neighboring units go off. Breakfast is very basic. Still, for the money, it's probably the best value for the area.
