“Awesome =)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2012

I had high expectations before we checked in at Madonna Inn and it was even better than I thought. We stayed in the Starlight room and we absolutely loved it. The poolarea was great. Sitting in the Jacuzzi while watching the stars was amazing. The pink restaurant was also amazing. Great food and very firendly staff.

Perferct romantic place :)

Kitschy, but really fun! I stayed her years ago, before we had kids, but thought the kids might enjoy it as well. They totally did. We stayed in Bridal Falls and the kids loved the Rock Room and Waterfall Shower. Great pool with excellent view. Breakfast is really good too! We are driving down the coast again next summer and the kids are alreadt trying to figure out which room they want to stay in!

Room Tip: Go on their website where they show a picture of each room with it's theme and amenities.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2012

My husband and I stayed in the American Beauty room at the beginning of August. We booked on-line and were designated a room per the on-line service. We were unable to request a specific room on-line. If I stayed here again I would call to speak with a live person to book the room I wanted.
The room itself was okay. It was charming but lacked in the cleanliness department with stains on the carpet, dirt under the bed and an exhausting looking bed spread. It was very apparent where the housekeepers over the years had vacuumed and where they had not. The bathroom was quaint and clean.I had called two weeks prior to our stay and requested a refrigerator for our room. When we arrived the refrigerator was no where to be found and I had to call again to request one. It looked pretty ragged but did the job.
The most menacing part of our stay was that the walls were extremely thin in the American Beauty room. You could literally hear people's conversations in the next room over which was The Old Fashioned Room. The last night we were there our neighbors had the TV on until 4AM. Needless we didn't get a lot of sleep that night. For light sleepers you can also hear a bit of noise from the freeway below. It's not a place where you can sleep in because you can hear the housecleaning staff cleaning the surrounding rooms.
What made up for the room was the outdoor swimming pool. We used it everyday that we were there. There is a bar/restaurant on-site. When the restaurant was slow the waitress would come out and take our drink and food orders. We loved having cocktails delivered right to the pool. We even ordered a pizza while we sat in the hot tub. The two hot tubs were very nice. They played great music at the pool through an outdoor sound system. The lounge chairs were comfortable and the the views from the pool were nice.
We also ate at the Copper Cafe. It was okay, your standard diner food. Nothing to write home about. The desserts were delicious though, ice cream sundaes and chocolate cake. Yum!
Our friends had the oak room and it was nice. It seemed a little more updated and clean.
Reasons to come back: the pool, the desserts at the Copper Cafe, the charm of the grounds,
being able to peak through the windows of the other rooms before people checked in the scope them out, to experience some cooler rooms
Reasons not to come back: thin walls, not that clean, copper cafe food just okay, not cost effective (kind of expensive)

Room Tip: I wouldn't recommend the American Beauty room. The Oak room seemed cool.

I stumbled upon The Madonna Inn whilst planning our US trip and it turned out to be a highlight for us. Even my sceptical husband enjoyed it he literally did have tears streaming down his face as he laughed. We stayed in the Caveman Room. It was our 25th wedding anniversary and there was a bottle of champagne and helium balloons waiting for us in the room-an unexpected lovely touch!
The whole place is bizarre, tasteless, tacky yes all those adjectives but so much fun. Stay there just for a laugh or two!

My wife and I stopped here on our way down the coast, thanks to a suggestion from a family friend that we had to see the bathrooms. We had no idea what to expect, and we were blown away. This place is over-the-top tacky, and unapologetically so. When you walk in, you can't help but embrace the overwhelming decor and the bizarre selection of rooms. It's fun, whimsical, and totally weird - in the best way. If you're driving the coast, this place is worth a stop, even if it's only for 15 minutes. And make sure to visit the bathrooms, of course.

We actually didn't stay here because we were looking for hotel lilies less expensive and at the time of travel all the bargin Roos were sold out. however we ate at the restaurant and it was truly the best steak we had in our 14 day trip in California! The decor in the dining room is tacky and bordello ish but very fun. The bathrooms are a must see! We are sorry we didn't get to stay here but. If the rest of the place is as good as the restaurant it will be worth the money!

This place is unreal and just a wonderful, wonderful experience. Totally tacky and kitsch but we loved it. Rooms are massive, all themed and very comfortable. Pool is heated and very nice - good cocktails served poolside. The cafe was not too inspiring but OK. Bar was busy and we had great fun watching the couples ballroom dance on the bright pink dance floor. Staff were friendly and helpful. A great stay - totally recommend it. Get online to pick your room in advance.
