“Good motel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2010

Got a good rate for a one night stay by booking on-line. Room is basic but comfortable. As with all US motels difficult to make tea! Walking distance from downtown San Kuis Obispo and set back from road so very little traffic noise.

We called ahead for good rates. The young girl at the desk was knowledgeable and gave us a nice room. The next day we went to review and the manager and his wife were on duty. Whole different story. Besides having a problem understanding the manager, him and his wife told us we would have to move to another room, told us the rate was no longer valid, and acted uncaring. We left and went down the street and found better and less expensive accomdationgs with one block. The next day we noticed that the motel had a number of empty rooms. This management team is killing the bottom line for the chain, but worse, they are not taking care of the hotel and its cleanliness with very dirty walkways, and a free breakfast that featured stale everything. There is better motels within a block and some are far less expensive.

We stayed here on our way from Frisco to LA... glad we arrived in SLO on a Thursday night for the local festivities (Farmer's Market every Thursday night) which gave us something to do. The hotel is not in the center of town, but there is a free shuttle bus if you don't want to take your car (we took the car and lucked out with a parking space -- they close down part of the main drag for the Farmer's Market)

The hotel was fine, an old revamped one, but the staff (a couple with kids) was very sweet. Breakfast is a bit cramped so we took our food to the room, but you can also go to the pool. The pool (which we didn't use) seems fine, but unfortunately is literally in the parking lot, so a bit awkward but...I guess if I were the owners I would revamp by putting the pool in the BACK where there is a huge downhill slope (that my kids used for Heely practice !!) . We had the last room on the end which was quiet and had a window overlooking the parking lot and the mountains. Probably in the middle would be a bit noisy since there were groups of people staying there, like friends, etc. so late night laughing, etc.. But I thing the manager probably tries to accomodate families (he has kids !), since I made the reservation the day before and he put us on the end, which was quiet. Coffee Maker, microwave and fridge, and the kids liked the fact that there were a lot of TV channels !

It is right across the street from a HOliday Inn which "looks" nicer but is probably more expensive and besides, there were strikers in front of it !! We paid $92 for 2 queen beds, for 4.

Located about 20 minute walk from Downtown - in the midst of hundreds of motels and hotels. We were on a budget so shopped around for a cheap deal and got this for about $70. Have stayed in other travelodges and found them to be clean and generally ok. This was a bit worse than we expected - room was shabby and sparse and not very well looked after.
Breakfast was horrendous, and the lobby was smelly. It did have a pool although it looked a bit dirty so we didnt go in, and there was WIFI - so one good point!! Not a lot else to say really!

Needed a place to stay for one night on our way home from a week of traveing. It was inexpensive ($80) and clean(ish). It was freeway close, had a pool my kids could enjoy upon our arrival and was within walking distance of our favorite restaurant in SLO, Apple Farm Inn. If you can get it for WELL under $100 during the busy summer months and don't need to stay for more than a night or two, you probably won't be disappointed.

Can't say anything specifically bad nor good about the property. The two nights I stayed, the same clerk worked all the open hours so the staffing is quite thin. He didn't open till well after 7 am each morning so I missed the so-called breakfast. Like so many motels this age, the outside is in slow decline and most renovations or improvements are to the inside. The room was in good shape for the star level, the bed comfortable and everything worked - all you can really expect for the price I paid. It's convenient to US 101 and there are many food choices nearby.

By the way, this is a much better operation than the "Downtown SLO Travelodge" and consider that if you call or reserve.
