“Convenient Location, No Frills or Customer Service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2014

Conveniently located only a few blocks from Hwy 101, just north of downtown SLO and a few blocks from the Cal Poly St Univ campus, it has free parking directly around the inn. There is no lobby to speak of and a limited complimentary breakfast is available but we only learned of that by happenstance since there was no mention of it during our check into the inn. We arrived at 1:30pm and asked if we could check in early and were told "no" because no rooms were available and told to return at 3pm. When checking in there were no pleasantries exchanged, just "sign here" and "your room number is...." The hotel is in need of a renovation, there is lots of dark patterned carpeting that needs to be cleaned, wall paper boarders everywhere to include the one in the hallway that is partially peeling off the wall. Our room does not have a closet, only a fake wooden wardrobe cabinet to hang items. The toilets in the hotel seem to have a vacuum component because there are the loudest flushing toilets I've ever heard and I can hear our neighbors flushing theirs. The lack of employee friendliness is a little surprising - husband and I have come and gone from the hotel a dozen times over two days and not one employee has said a word to us, tonight the clerk behind the counter did not even look up from his cell phone as we walked through the front doors to the elevator and were within 5 ft of his counter. With that said, our room was the best priced option in SLO for the weekend and it provided what we needed, a place to sleep and shower.

Good Grief ! If you happened to be renting during OpenHouse, your room rates could have approached $160/night or more! But, right after these dates, the rates were cut about half ! So we got to our room and thought we were walking into two Queens instead of one but that was probably a misunderstanding on my part. Just the same, although the room was clean, it was very small e.g.not enough table space, NO Frig, NO microwave (what are these omissions all about?), TV was fine, AC/Heater remote control did not work except for one button well, actually two if U count the on/off, good breakfasts though. Still, at 1/2 price---too much.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that gives you enough "room"

Was moved from the room next to stairwell to an upper room that was much quieter. The room was small but comfortable. Disconcerting to hear water bubbling in our sink (2nd floor) when neighboring rooms used their showers or bathrooms sink. Called front desk for maintenance to check on it but no one ever showed up. Complained at checkout and they happily gave us a discount on our room.
Loved the town, lots of pleasant looking young college people (Cal-Poly) enjoying the pleasant weather that evening. We felt safe walking to and from our restaurant at night.
Directions to hotel were clear and easy to follow.

Average hotel. Front desk seemed a bit indifferent to us. Close to Hearst Castle. Rate was favorable compared to some other hotels in area. Breakfast nothing special. Room we had was quiet for sleeping.

This motel is directly across from the Quality Inn and Suites, where we usually stay. There is no comparison. All they need to do is clean the place up and it would be worth the money paid for a night' stay. The carpets are filthy and the pizza stain on the bedsheets a bit off putting. There was no bath mat or signs near exits denoting stairs. The breakfast was not up to the usual Comfort Inn Standard, with cold eggs and apples that were " tired "when we arrived and even more unappetizing when we left. I would not recommend this motel to anyone until it is cleaned and repainted inside. The staff was helpful, however.

Stayed here twice before and it's okay, this time was offered an upgrade to a king suite. thats great but... two of the walls next to the bed border the elevator shaft so you get constant mechanical noise every time the elevator moves. There is a door partially blocked by the t.v. that goes out to an unusable balcony that does not have black out shades so the morning light blinds you. Room fronts Monterey street, very noisy. The wardrobe is tough to get to because of the desk and couch locations. No ice machine on the 3rd floor. This may be the nicest room in the worst location (1306) in the joint. Breakfast only goes to 9:30, I think the scrambled eggs were actually cut up sponges, everything else was good. Wifi good, many t.v. stations but no guide as to what was where.
So to recap, you go to bed early, sleep like a log, and get up with the roosters this room is great. Sleep light, sleep in, run for your life! Off season mid week rate of 62.00 hard to beat

Room Tip: get a room away from Monterey st.

Check in and check out the staff were personable and helpful. The room was on the back side away from the street (had to pay extra for the long walk). The bathroom was nearly as big as the room itself, the entry was crowded but did have the fridge and microwave as promised. We stayed one night on the way to visit family, I wouldn't have wanted to stay longer.
Breakfast was un-inspiring.
