“People Make the Difference”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013

My guess is that most people who read TripAdvisor fall into one of two major categories. One is the new trailer who does not have any real experience on the road and then the second group is the road warrior who spends too darn much time on the highways and byways. I am in fact a road warrior! For this review I will address both groups. Now the experienced among us know that the Choice Hotel Chain and in this case the Comfort Inn and Suites Lamplighter in San Luis Obispo CA are good mid level hotels. They are not the Hyatt and they are not the local roach motel. In truth they are pretty good for a decent nights sleep and so it was with the Comfort Inn in SLO. The difference in his case was a young woman name Britney who worked the front desk. I had not taken time off of work for several years and finally took a break to visit wine country up in Paso Robles. For wine lovers a GREAT thing to do by the way. She was simply incredible. She made recommendations far beyond what one would expect and literally stayed on top of all the needs of my son and daughter in law plus yours truly during our two day stay. She became part of the great expericne we had. So...a great visit, a good hotel, and a fantastic guide at the front desk to all things cool in the area. She deserves a raise for sure and for one, this old man appreciates the care she showed us!.

Encouraged by positive reviews at TripAdvisor.com and at Hotels.com, we reserved a room at the Comfort Inn and Suites for two nights. Upon arrival, we were booked into a room with convenient access without stairs or hallways. But as soon as we opened the door we were met by a strong "off" odor that we couldn't quite identify. The room itself was small and dark, the bathroom was old, looking like something from the 1950s or 1960s.

I immediately spoke to the front desk clerk, who may have been the manager. He gave me a key card for another room that he said might be better, but it was not any better.

If we had planned to stay in SLO for only one night I might have stuck it out. But we decided to cut our losses and we found a better room elsewhere in town.

Room Tip: If you go, make sure you ask for the newest, nicest rooms they have. Better yet, stay elsewhere, as...

We reserved a room w/ 2 Queen Size Beds through AARP. Check-in was quick. Room was adequate for just an overnight stay while visiting Cal Poly Campus. The bed was comfortable and shower stall were very clean. Room came with refrig, microwave, hair dryer. A very pleasant and quiet night's rest during Spring break in SLO. AARP rates were quite reasonable.

Room Tip: Area seems very safe and heard very little traffic or noise from the roads staying in the back-side...

It is extremely difficult to find a suite with separate sleeping areas, without having to pay for two rooms. We were very glad to find this Inn, where we had a suite with a sleeping area in the main room, as well as a separate bedroom. The checkin clerk was most helpful and accommodating and told us about the Farmers' Market on Thursdays on the main street in San Luis Obispo, which we thoroughly enjoyed! The rooms at the Inn were very clean and comfortable, and the beds were also of high quality. The breakfast consisted of a nice variety, including protein offerings of sausage or bacon and scrambled eggs, which we appreciated.

Room Tip: We were housed in the second building on the second floor. There are no elevators in this building...

Stayed here with my family to visit the Cal Poly campus. Simple hotel, clean. The most convenient part of our stay was the complimentary continental breakfast provided in the mornings. With two kids (2 and 4 yrs) with us, this was perfect. We didn't have to get up and dressed too early in order to find breakfast. We just wandered down to the breakfast and ate there or back in our room.

Very clean property with spacious rooms. Location is great: no too far from all SLO action: restaurants, bars, shops, just a couple of minutes drive or about 15 minutes walk. The bed was comfortable and overall - all the good things you can expect from motel stay: nothing more, nothing less.

Spent a couple nights at this hotel and found it to be very clean, bed was comfy, good size bathroom, TV with in room fridge and microwave. Check-in was fast, painless and Seth at front desk made us feel welcomed right away. Great customer service! Downtown SLO restaurants and shopping were a short 10 minute walk. Cab drive back at night was only about $5 dollars. Mexican restaurant Pepe Delgado's directly across the street but we sadly did not have chance to enjoy. If you enjoy good craft beers, check out Central Coast Brewing two blocks away and SLO brewing restaurant in downtown area.
